Taking over Michigan State in Phelan, and as usual, I am undertaking a complete overhaul, including a scheme change to FB/press. As it happens, we begin the season with 8 new players, and nobody comes to campus with any knowledge of the FB offense. This presents a good opportunity to look at how IQ growth is affected by HS GPA and work ethic. Everyone got to D- after 25 minutes, if I recall, though I did not check to verify. I will *try* to note when each player bumps to next grade, at least for this season, starting with D. Apologies in advance for when I drop the ball. Hopefully this will keep me engaged in what will be a really bad season.

Agree. It may be related to Richard being a senior transfer. Sometimes upperclassmen acquire some incidental IQ along the way. He came to me with an F, but it’s possible as a 4th year player that was not exactly the same as Barth’s F. Richard is a starter (I’ve wondered if PT has a small effect apart from work ethic), but over the first 3 games only got 7 more minutes than Barth, so that probably doesn’t account for the discrepancy.

Over the season, we might see if it plays out more as expected; may take a few more bumps to tell.
