I seem to remember this being based on improvement vs actual conference record. Ive gone 16-0 in conference and still not gotten this in the past and that was the excuse CS would give me back then. Not a big deal but important for those who want this bullshit metric to actually mean something for firings.

Has always been this way. Sure, takes a look at your previous season (success) for improvement but much more is placed on current season success. Success is also not just W/L but record and margin of victory against top teams.

COY is not most improved coach. The coach in you division that one has #1 ranked team in nation.

I feel ya mully. Took over a 6-21 team that hadn't won the conf in 58 seasons and went 16-11 (11-5 in conf vs 4-12 the prior year) and won the conf (didn't make postseason, 141 RPI) but didn't win CCOY. I was always under the assumption that current season success vs prior season was a big factor in determining the award.

it is a big factor, that is what makes CCOY different. but its always been both. one part success, like NCOY, and one part improvement from the prior season. its never been just improvement.
