Should a Press/FB team ever shoot a three? Topic

Like ever?

absolutely. drawing extra fouls as a fb/fcp team, to compound your opponents foul/fatigue trouble, is a reasonable strategy. but it definitely does not work consistently, especially against deep man and zone teams, but really even against balanced 10 deep teams in those categories. 3pta are a very efficient form of offense, and fb teams can get away with less, but its usually still good to take some. and generally, strong 3pt scoring fb/fcp teams are the best of the bunch. if you don't push your opponent into major fatigue issues, a 3-less offense is generally going to be somewhat anemic, facing a -2 or -3 against deep teams (perhaps -5).

in short, i don't consider the 0 foul fb/fcp (mfnmeyers scheme if you will) to be the main line, or the best line. its an interesting side-line though for sure.

Yeah the mfnmyers style of going all out on ath/def doesn't work in 3.0 unfortunately. All good teams at D3 now have a high ath so they you can't force them into foul trouble as easily as before.

Makes me miss playing D3 back in 2.0 before Seble ruined it. Bummer.

I've found that the swing in FT% is also pretty random which impacts the effectiveness of the "no 3 pointers" approach. 50% FT games are killers

Good question and discussion....I've always thought it didnt make sense to play minus while running the press. I still do it, but don't know how much sense it makes.
