righty vs lefties Topic

How big of a significance is this? Is it worth divided money between left and right handed batters so they can platoon?

right handers improve their batting average 5% against lefties and go down 5% against righties, same for lefties.

switch hitters stay the same vs both righties and lefties.

so yeah, platooning can be an effective strategy.

Interesting...switch hitters should just identify as left handed or right handed hitters instead....

My understanding is that switch hitters are not impacted (stay the same), while right handed hitters stay the same vs LHP, and take a 4.5% penalty vs RHP. Left handed hitters are the opposite where they stay the same vs RHP, and take a 4.5% penalty vs LHP.

I am a little more than halfway past the all-star break in my first sim league season, it's fun but really I didn't do well with pitching and stamina. One thing I have noticed, and it may just be anecdotal as it's my first league, but there seem to be way more RH SP than LP SP in the season. Seems like I only face a LH SP once every 5-7 games. It makes me think the best approach may actually be to have 1 RH batter and 1-2 LH Batters then 5-7 S batters in my next build.

Seems like loading up with S hitters would be better?

Your observations about way more RHP than LHP is accurate. It seems that in general, RHP do much better. I expect that's because there are many more righty hitters than lefties. Switch hitters can be a good way to handle this, but pound for pound, they're usually a little more expensive.

Still, there are a lot of ways to win, and in any given league, you could find a surprising amount of lefties, throwing off your whole plan. Take some time to play more leagues, and keep gathering info like you are in this one. Try your switch-hitter strategy, and see how it goes!

Yes this is very much right hand dominant...

Switch hitters are preferred, avoiding the penalty. They are not plentiful nor cheap. Good hitters will hit, regardless, at least most of the time. A great weapon is value, and spending wisely. These leagues get very competitive, you cannot afford to waste. That, coupled with speed, good defense and efficiency will win here. Draft players that fit your scheme, your park. Don't buy what you don't need. Do as many things well as possible.
