The idea that men can get pregnant doesn't make sense at first to a lot of people because most view "sex" and "gender" as interchangeable, even though they're not. The male sex cannot get pregnant, but the male gender can. No one actually believes that "female" is defined as "someone who can get pregnant" - many women cannot get pregnant, but we would still consider them to be women. I guarantee everyone in these threads has walked by a trans person before and not known it - we would consider these people to be men or women based on how they present, not what their genitals are. Do you use the preferred pronouns of people regardless of whether you've seen their ***** or vagina before? Congrats, you recognize that sex and gender are two different concepts.

All that said, saying "pregnant woman" isn't transphobic because women can also get pregnant. In fact, implying that most pregnant people are women is also not transphobic because it's true.

Thank you for stating the issue so clearly Tang. Any boomer Democrats, or stupid centrists on this board should listen. Progress always wins. The mainstream position of Democrats today is that both men and women can get pregnant. It's only dumb backwards people on the right who don't believe in science who believe that only women can become pregnant.

I'm not going to be judgemental of people that believe only women can get pregnant because it is a stance that seems obvious to most people. I'm here for the arguments, and I've yet to see a solid one that counters "men can get pregnant too" besides some intuitive disgust or fear of trans people (dogmatism).

That said, voting based on who believes men can get pregnant is a pretty stupid way to vote. Policy issues are always the most important. Right now, the dividing line in Congress is on the infrastructure bill, not on trans people. Vote based on what actually matters.

By the way, "science" can't determine whether men can get pregnant. Who "men" and "women" are is a sociological and philosophical question. Science might tell us that people without a uterus can't get pregnant, but it can't tell us that people with a uterus are men or women. The definitional questions are always philosophical.

But if you want to play the "intuitive, common sense" game, here's a trans man:

To 99.9% of us, we would see this guy and immediately assume that he's a man. And that's because he is. He also could probably get pregnant. Guitarguy would go against all reason and logic by calling this person a woman. That makes no sense - if any of us interacted with this person, none of us would ever treat them in society as a woman or use she/her pronouns because that would be ******* ridiculous.

Obviously, genitalia isn't the signifier of gender, because otherwise, you would have to take the ridiculous argument that men are women and women are men. No one actually believes that.

So.......... I've known this **** all along............ when I was a kid my folks would go to Sunday dinner following church at various and assorted other church folks houses. Following dinner and (usually) a big dessert my poppa would push back his chair, lean back, stretch, put his arms out and wave 'em around getting the kinks out and then he'd declare (loudly), while rubbin his ample belly:

"Yep, I think I'm a gonna have an elephant...........why just this morning I think I seen it's trunk"

and he'd guffaw as if it was the funniest durn thing while all the church women would just turn ashen and look at themselves in sheer horror and mortification...........

The issue is that guitarguy doesn't actually understand how left-wing people view the world. so instead of making a rational point about trans people from the perspective of the made up person inside his head (coreander), he instead justifies trans people for the same reason he opposes it in reality - a dogmatic and emotional perspective. He won't actually engage with the arguments, which is why he hides behind a shitpost main account and a troll second account.
