PI vs NT Prestige Bump Topic

Just curious... What would a PI final four run, PI championship runner up, and PI championship winner equate to in NT terms? Re: prestige bump.

great question

I've heard people say that the PI championship is equal to a NT 1st round, but I think its worth a little more. Maybe somewhere between NT 1st round and NT 2nd round.

Depends on where your prestige status is already and history. If you're an A+ and you win the PI your going to take a slight prestige hit. But if your prestige is low it will give you a boost.

Just saw this while looking at my team's history. The PI championship actually raised prestige from an A to an A+. I didn't think that would be the case.

I don't believe that to be true. I'm going to guess that that school had players get drafted after the PI title and THAT is what raised the prestige.

I have no facts to prove my opinion. But the PI should NOT be worth more than a NT bid at all. If it is, that is ridiculous in my opinion. If you're not a top 64 team to get in the NT, then winning games against other teams that didn't get in either, should not reward anyone.
nope. first off, PIT championship has always been worth more than a NT1. great example by the way, thanks for posting mlitney!

but more importantly, draft picks *do not* show in the prestige on the team game plan. that is printed after the NT, well before the draft. this is why you can see teams in recruiting with different prestige than their listed prestige on the history - this means draft picks (or a new coach who got higher prestige upon entering, which is rare but does happen).

i agree its higher than it should be. i used to be mildly supportive (which is partly why my dynasty rankings put PIT championships higher than NT1 also), because with not-very-good seeding, a PIT championship is actually more impressive. we used to have not very good seeding. seble's projection report is a major improvement and one of his finer pieces of work, so now i think its pretty unambiguously too high (the higher PIT achievements compared to NT1 / NT2)

Good point on the timing of draft picks. I didn't consider that. You are correct there.

I just find it impossible to believe the PI is worth diddly squat. It should not be at all. In my opinion

I recently won a D2 PI championship and my prestige dropped from an A to an A-. Granted there was a strong stretch before that was coming off the books so it was bound to come down, but it definitely didn't help much if any. My RPI that year went from something like 80 to 48 after the PI run, but don't know if that helped either.

The admin at the time the PIT was created stated that a PIT final four was equivalent to a 2nd round NT appearance. Doubt that has changed.
