Just took over a team in a new (to me) world. When I was checking my coach situation for the season I noticed that my ML bench coach (coming off a 100+ Win season) decided to take a HUGE pay cut and move to 1B Coach. I've never seen this happen before. Is this a glitch that I should send a ticket in for or have other owners had this happen?

Happens all the time that coaches make weird decisions like that, although I haven't seen that exact one.

Yup and yup. "Thanks, I enjoyed being your hitting coach just this one time, but I really want to be a bench coach." "Dude, you're a crap bench coach. No one will hire you."

Yea, the former bench coach as a 27 base running rating so he'll never get hired as a 1B coach.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
That coach isn't a HiA bench coach let alone an ML one. The prior owner signed a random minor league coach to his ML squad so he could pay him a min. contract and keep his coaching budget at the minimum. The system had to assign him to some ML coaching position at rollover so it chose 1B because the system forces him to demand an ML position after (undeservingly) coaching at the ML level for a season. Looks like he'll eventually be a decent FI but he should be your rookie bench.

As to youngquist's post - I'll spill the beans. Coaches will sign for a 50% discount during the final days of coach hiring. Stick a bunch of 50% bids on the top guys on the first cycle of coach hiring and hope others don't challenge your bid. If your league isn't too competitive, most owners see the little bid icon and move onto other coaches because everyone hates coach hiring and no one wants to get into a bidding war unless there's a max contract HoF guy in FA (and even then it's usually not a thing because most owners don't know that coaching is one of the deciding factors for a FA). You can end up with 1B/3B/BU guys with 90 ratings (if you're willing to pay ~1.2M for them)

I do it all the time. I'm not going to give away my strategy but often times hitting or bench coaches won't get offers so I sign em as 1B coaches and they are a lot better then the available ones out there.

Brian -- The 50% discount is not what I was referring to.
