The long-running Real Life Progressive League (over 80 seasons and in its second go-around) is looking for a replacement owner for the Chicago Cubs, with 2012 being a free team. The draft has started off the clock, and the Cubs now have the 10th pick The Cubs have three solid SPs for 2012, but Wainwright is an ace in 2013 and 2014, when the Cubs have better pitching. The Cubs could perform decently in 2012, but would do better to perform a quick rebuild, trading current quality to beef up the 2013-2014 lineup.
This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, for this season's 2012 draft, some of the top picks are "prospects" who started their careers in 2012 but didn't have a legitimate WIS season. Usually there are quite a few key prospects available, but 2012 is a down year for prospects, so it looks like only SP Trevor Bauer and SP Jake Odorizzi would be of interest in the 1st round. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the first round, you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 2012 season, and a DH is used in the AL. We have been around for over 80 seasons, and the rules are very detailed to prevent tanking. Plus, there is a great group of owners in this 24 team league, with lots of friendly banter and plenty of trades.
