5 year contracts for coaches Topic

Idea: Let us sign a multi-year contract with coaches, just like with players. But to make it realistic, have the contract broken if the owner leaves. And maybe even have a mutual option that's negotiable every year. I hate having to see every season if my fielding instructor will resign; and if he won't having to spend up to $5M for a new one.

I think simply having a larger pool of adequate fielding coaches would do the trick. If they allowed long term contracts for coaches, it would make the problem worse because there would be even less coaches available.

Yes there should be more adequate-level FIs, I've tried developing one and it's a pain in the *** and just as soon as he was getting decent, he jumped ship. Bj's idea isn't bad but I still say Coach Hiring should be reduced drastically at the ML level. Frankly I think you should be able to rehire anyone you want to. IRL a major league coach serves at the team's wishes, almost no one ever leaves voluntarily to see if there's "something better out there".

Coach hiring is so random and the current process sucks. I think we can all agree to that. My suggestion has been to make it like medical and training and set a budget amount that equates to the quality of coaches you have throughout your system -- maybe $6M minimum to $15M maximum (instead of $20M, although if our budgets increase, $20M would be fine). That would align with the strategy of the rest of this game. Instead, owners who invest in their minors and coaches sometimes get screwed when bidding for major-league coaches and have to settle for a coach who, for at least that season, doesn't offer the desired level of coaching.

I love this idea. The current process of hiring coaches is the worst part of the game.
