You were fired like Roger Neilson, then the GM couldn't find a replacement in time, so the GM asked him to come back. Also asked him to wear a paper bag on his head while on the bench...not kidding. He didn't comply...I think it was the Leafs or Flyers GM. Probably Bobby Clarke...

That happened in my hometown, Doc. Toronto, late seventies. It was Leafs owner Harold Ballard who wanted the paper bag (Ballard was a joke, a poor man's Steinbrenner). Always liked Roger Nielson, though.

Neilson deserved far better in several stops. A very admired coach...one of the really good guys in the game. Eccentric, but a great coach. His bio is worth reading...
