Drafting - High School vs. College Topic

I’ve heard different philosophies. I wanted share mine, get everyone else’s while getting specific feedback on my upcoming draft.

I like putting all my money in one and not the other. I could spend $20M for both college and high school. You will get the most accurate scoring report for each but it’s a lot of money to spend. You could split the different (10/10) but it seems like you are getting less accurate numbers for a larger pool. I prefer dropping $20M on college and nothing on high school, older, less development risk.

I’ve read it depends were you draft. Drafting high,,better to go college. Distinguish later, better to roll the dice on a high school player who could have more upside. What is your philosophy?

Last question. I am taking over a team and have the top pick. Would you put your scouting money into high school or college scouting?

IMO, it doesn't matter. You get similar quality players and scouting accuracy. If I notice the league overall invests heavily in one, I'll go the other way. That's the only factor that comes into play if I need to choose one or the other. But most leagues are usually pretty close or yo-yo back and forth.

I personally go max on both budgets on rebuilds, and then after 3 or 4 drafts of drafting top10, start winding down both budgets to $0 and go full FA. I prefer this extreme min/max strategy over others.

I think you pretty much summed up my philosophy. I honestly think 20-20 is a waste because you only get to pick 1 guy. I would much rather have that other 20 million for free agents and international recruits.

For the top pick I would go college but I'd be nervous. If I can't get that budget up to 20 million I'd want to punt on the draft and go for the next season.

I prefer pouring everything into college scouting but I’m faced with a unique dilemma. Top pick, taking over a new organization, some limitations to set of funds with the previous owner preferring a focus on high school prospects. I see 3 choices. Where would you go?

Stick with high school - 20 HS, 5 college, 0 college scouting next season. Confidently select the top HS player in the upcoming draft.
Shift to college - 15 college, 5 HS, go up to 20 next season, drop HS. Punt on the pick (select an undecided with Mom as his agent), confidently pick the top college player available at 2 next season.
Shift to college - Same approach as option 2 but draft a singable pick, hoping $15M gets me the best college player or close to it.

Dealers choice but I would say either the first or the 3rd.

I’d lean more towards the first option and then when you settle and establish move into college, but HS can be such a buyer beware. You could end up with a stud or a AAAA player.

I’m min/max based on world budgets on which one I pick HS vs COL. I can’t imagine a scenario where maxing both is ever worth it.

I always like to look for advantages over the competition. If the world tends to keep higher budgets on HS prospects then I will go College and vice versa. If a tie then I'll lean HS if I don't need replacement soon or college if I do.

Always HS.

I always run 20/20 whether in contention or not, but I totally understand the 20/0 strategy too. Personally the draft & DITRs are my favorite part of the game, so I revolve my entire team building strategy to maximize 20/20. I strive to have 3/4 if not more comp picks a season. It gives me 4/5 ML guys, and it gives me and opportunity to get elite DITR candidates. And then I'll put guys who fell in the draft but I feel like are steals on my watch list for trades. You can build a ton of depth that way, and even have some stars in the late 1st round draft/DITR. And then use the payroll flexibility and depth to trade for expensive stars.
