Curious how some deploy these ever so common lefty relief pitchers with low vR split. This guy for instance. 84 cntrl/94vL/71vR, with pitches of 83/72/37

Basically a 4 ERA, whip near 1.4 .. .260 opp avg. Whereas, if he was a right hander and the splits were reversed but everything else the same, he'd be a low-sub 2 ERA type guy.

He may not be the best example, but I feel these lefty pitchers with good control, really good vL split, very good to good pitches, and a low-ish vR split just never get it done.

Anyone have experience maximizing how to use guys like that? Admittedly I haven't tried much more than SuA/SuB for them.

Either put his TPC/MPC ultra low (5 or 10) or put his pull rate ultra high. If you set his TPC/MPC to 5 in theory he should come in, get a tough leftie out and then leave. What that is worth, I have no idea.

Trade or release him. Other than that, yes do what hockey suggests and designate him as a left handed specialist. You might get decent results, but I stay away from pitchers with low vR ratings.

A right split of 71 and those other rating peripherals should likely result in better than those stats. I'd first try to evaluate the defense to see if that can be improved. I had this guy in Dirt and won three consecutive CY Young awards with him, but I had a stellar defense. If that still doesn't work, maybe try to hide him being a RHP starter in a tandem or as an LRA, after RHP starters.

1) His ERA in the 4 seasons, 572 IP since you acquired him is 3.43, despite playing half his games in HAR. Even in the NL that's very effective for that park. By comparison, your team ERA over those seasons is 3.80.
2) I don't know why he blew chunks for his previous owner, but a substantial piece of it has to do with the fact that they tried to start him for one season. Your human opponents do a much better job of finding the platoon advantage than simmy does... try your damnedest not to use a pitcher with wide splits as a starter.
3) Don't use him as a specialist; that part of the engine is FUBAR'd. Just use him the way you have been. He's fine.
