Following are the League Rules:
Original rules as set by Boddicker. whose idea was the origin of this league (and who will be a member of the league).
We will have an initial draft of players from 1951-1957....you take a player and you own him for his entire career. You can keep any and all of your roster to play Season 2, if they are still active, which will be seasons 1958-1964. In each of the league seasons, you get to choose which of the active 7 seasons to use for each player. We will draft all the new players after Season 1.....so you keep who you want, and fill out your roster with players active from 1958-1964 during a pre-season 2 draft....and so on and so on. So as an example, say you draft Willie Mays... you use his 1954 season for season 1...you keep him for season 2 and use his 1962 season....you keep him for season 3 and use his 1965 season....you keep him for season 4 and use his 1972 season... he retires before SEASON 5, opening a roster spot on your squad. Unlimited keepers and cuts, manage your team as you see fit.......We will have these seasons to play, one at a time:
SEASON 1- 1951-1957
SEASON 2- 1958-1964
SEASON 3- 1965-1971
SEASON 4- 1972-1978
SEASON 5- 1979-1985
SEASON 6- 1986-1992
SEASON 7- 1993-1999
SEASON 8- 2000-2006
SEASON 9- 2007- 2013
SEASON 10- 2014-2020
SEASON 11- 2021-2027 ?
OTHER RULES- 24 TEAMS/OWNERS, NO WW, NO AAA(there are plenty of available players), $125 Million CAP, TRADES ARE OK. NO CLONES.NO DH UNTIL SEASON 4.... ONCE WE HAVE 24 OWNERS, WE WILL HAVE A RANDOM DRAFT FOR FRANCHISES AND ACTIVE BALLPARKS. YOUR BALLPARK MUST BE ACTIVE DURING THE TIME FRAME PLAYED (a list of teams and available ballparks will be provided below)....IF YOUR CLUB MOVES YOU MUST MOVE TO THE NEW BALLPARK (AND CITY IF REQUIRED). As the number of teams increases, we may increase the salary cap(subject to a vote of league members). INITIAL DRAFT will be SERPENTINE (1-24; 24-1), ALL OTHER DRAFTS ARE NORMAL, WORST TO FIRST BY RECORD( 50 WIN MINIMUM BY GAME 150 TO AVOID A TOTAL TANK JOB)....some interesting strategies will be in play every off-season draft, you can bet on that...and with only 24 clubs, as RL baseball expands, our team salaries will increase. Also, let's shoot for realistic team names, please( city and mascot).
As a precaution to avoid tanking, there will be a random lottery for the first 4 positions in the first round only, with the team with the worst record having 4 chances for the #1 pick, the team with the second worst record having 3 chances for the #1 pick, the team with the third worst record having 2 chances for the #1 pick and the team with the 4th worst record having 1 chance for the #1 pick. If a team fails to meet the 50 win requirement by game 150, they will automatically draft no higher than 3rd, regardless of the results of the lottery."
Draft Protocols.
While drafts are Off The Clock owners should site mail the next 2 owners after making a selection. Owners should not be skipped while a draft is off the clock.
When drafts are On The Clock owners should not draft before their scheduled time unless there are no missed picks. A round should not be started before the first scheduled time if any previous round has any missed picks. This provision is designed to allow owners with skipped picks to have an opportunity between rounds to make up their missed picks
Trading of Draft Picks. Trading of draft picks is not allowed for the inaugural draft. For subsequent drafts picks may only be traded up to 1 season in advance-that is, during the 1958-1964 draft. picks may be traded only for the 1958-1964 and 1965-1971 drafts For clarification, as soon as the 1958-1964 season starts, in season trades may also include 1965-1971 draft picks. Conditional trading of draft picks (i.e. an owner trades whichever turns out the higher of 2 1st round picks, etc) is not allowed. If an owner has his own and another team's picks in a specific round, any trade must specify which pick is being traded. Rule added 9/9/2020
Add/drop Round. After the completion of each annual draft, there will be an add/drop round. Starting and ending times for the add/drop round will be set by the Commissioner. The add/drop round will be on a first come/first served basis.
Missed Picks:
If an owner misses a pick in rounds subsequent to Round 1, all subsequent picks in that round must occur during their scheduled time slot. In other words, no picking ahead of your time slot in the round unless all owners before you have picked. If the pick is still missing by the start of the next draft day, the commissioner mayl make the draft pick for the team.
An owner who has 2 or more missed picks at any one time MAY be considered to have left the league. The commissioner reserves the right to make draft picks, take over the team and/or give the team to a new owner immediately.
Keepers:
The Commissioner will set up a keeper thread in the league private forum after the 120 games mark of each season. Keeper lists will be due by the end of each regular season; any owner that fails to do so runs the risk of losing his team. Teams may keep up to 25 players each season plus injured reserve (IR). Each owner is responsible for keeping track of his IR players and making sure each season's keeper list is correct. Failure to list a player as a keeper (including a player returning from IR) means that player will be added to the next available player list, and you risk losing the player. At the end of the regular season, all keeper lists are final, any subsequent roster corrections must be posted directly to the keeper thread in the league forum and site mailed to the Commissioner.
Due to the 7 year progressive nature of the league IR players will be rare. However. in the rare cases where a player in the just concluded season (say 1951-1957) is inactive for the 1958-1964 season but returns for the 1965-1971 season, he may be listed as IR for the 1958-1964 season and restored to the active roster for the 1965-1971 season.
AVAILABLE PLAYERS PROTOCOLS
Each season the commissioner will post a list of available players for the upcoming draft. This list will be compiled from the list of all WIS-eligible players in the given season, subtracting out all players listed as keepers. The available player list will be published very shortly after all keeper list have been posted. Since the draft will not start until after the conclusion of the regular season, owners will be given least 3 days in which to verify that the available player list is correct.
The available players list is considered final once the draft starts – even if it contains mistakes. IT IS EACH OWNER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT NONE OF HIS KEEPERS ARE LISTED AS AVAILABLE. In the event that a mistake is made by the commissioner, and a keeper is listed on the available players list, THAT PLAYER WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO BE DRAFTED . Obviously, owners should help each other police the list – if you see someone listed as an available who looks too good to be true, it is likely that a mistake has been made; please point it out. However, if someone slips through the cracks and is drafted, the new owner will get to keep the player and the original owner will lose him.
Similarly, if a player who should be eligible for the draft is not listed on the available list, he may not be drafted. Such a player will be added to the available list for the following season (if he is still active).
Franchise Moves
As MLB expands, there will be may be more than 24 stadiums in use in real life. At the beginning of season 6 (1986-1992), teams will be permitted to move their franchise to an open stadium (they must use the name of the city/State in which the stadium is located). The Commissioner will provide a list of open Franchises and ballparks. Once a franchise moves, no further moves for at least 5 seasons will be permitted, except as required to conform to real life franchise or ballpark moves.
All moves will require prior approval of the Commissioner.
