I recruited this guy as a 2-year JUCO. Decided to try slapping a redshirt on him and you can see the result. WE tumbled, but it's still viable. He has blue potential in ATH and green in REB, DEF, LP, and stamina. He's got F/F IQ in my systems. To further muddy the waters, if I do leave him redshirted he'll be the third post in the same class. Upside, however, is tremendous by D3 standards. The other 2 sophomore posts are very average.

I think youll get better category growth with 78 WE in 2 seasons that than 27WE in 3 seasons. IQ probably ends up higher in the 3 season scenario but category wise, I think the vast majority of the gains you get in the redshirt year will be wiped away in the offseason and therefore you are basically looking at growth over 2 seasons with 78 WE vs. 27 WE (both would go up with some starts). Compound that with the 3 post class, I think I would pass on the RS.

I only redshirt this guy if I want to balance classes somehow, or if I don’t think I can even use him much before that 3rd season. Agree with Tex, there should be more growth in 2 seasons with full WE, so as long as you can get him the court time to make it worth it at the end of that 2nd season for the payoff, that’s where I’d look to cash in.

On the other hand, if you redshirt, the biggest advantage for him will be the IQ, and that’s not nothing; but if you’re going to have 3 posts in the same class, unless you play FB/P, IMO that’s a headache you don’t need.

agree 100%, F having 3 posts in 1 class!

Sometimes I can legitimately make one of them a small forward, and move my recruiting forward accordingly, and that works. But if they’re all true posts, it’s just a pain. So many holes to fill, hard to develop anyone behind them. I don’t worry about it as much with FB/P where I always need x number of minutes and I care less about classes and more about just blanket stamina coverage, but even then I would ideally like a little more balance so I’m not trying to replace an entire starting frontline and their prime backup in one season.

First think I always do when presented with What Would You Do scenarios is look around for John Quinones.
