Maybe this has been posted somewhere else but I can't find it....
How is it determined who does the jump ball for each team?

isn't it just the tallest big man on each team?

Not sure how a tie is broken if two guys are the same height.

I'd actually be interested in a study of how height affects the jumpball. Like does the taller player always win? Does athleticism play a role?

Why even have a jump ball in CB. It goes to the opposite team in the second half anyway.

I have a 7-0 big with 90 ATH
he has won 6 of 18 opening jump balls on the season.

losing to guys: 6-7 57 ath, 6-9 37 ath, 6-10 46 ath.

real small sample size, but it appears to not be always the bigger, more athletic guy that wins the tip.

A few years back I read that the NFL team that wins the coin toss in overtime, wins 52% of the time.
While the NBA team that won the opening tip over the course of the year won 55% of the games.

Yup at least on my team appears to be my tallest guy. He is my SF actually so that's why I was initially confused.

Dang, I had to look that 52% in the NFL up, thought that was way too low. But it's right on.

Oddly enough it's 90.9% in the NFL playoffs (sample size of 11 games).

Is that 55% on the opening tip or the overtime tip?

Don't mix up college hoops and the NFL. The NFL relies on coin tosses. College hoops relies on an opening tip, then the arrow based off of turnovers. (btw I'm a Chiefs fan, so happy they won the coin toss vs. the Bills. But they blew it all against the Bengals the next week)

There is also a tip in overtime in college hoops.
