Today is the 58th birthday of one of the most interesting, and most controversial players in all of WhatIfSports, the great Bob Milacki!

We've probably all had a season or two saved or ruined by his pitching, especially back in the day when he could start every game in a playoff series. I've also seen him throw multiple no hitters in leagues I've been in, though I myself have never gotten one.
It's truly amazing just how good he was for that month in 1988, a .110 OAV is sickening, and gave us something interesting to remember the 1988 Orioles by other than a losing streak.

What made him controversial? He is a statistical anomaly here for sure but he is probably more famous in WIS than in real life.

The way he was used made him controversial.
The fact he could pitch an entire playoff series if you banked his innings, was that cheating, or just against the spirit of the game? Should this be allowed or not?
Obviously they patched this many years ago so that option is no longer available, but I still remember back then when there was a lot of uproar about the "Bob Milacki Strategy"

Do you have an idea of how often he can be used in the playoffs now? I've never drafted him but was able to pick him up off waivers (right before trade deadline) and am resting him until playoffs.

(Sim did bring him in one game for 3 2/3 even though he was on rest in a 15 inn game)

There's no more "banking" as many innings as you'd like. The sim gives you 5% extra, max, if a pitcher is underused. In Milacki's case, that doesn't work out to much.

If I had him in the playoffs I'd use him very sparingly until there was a must-win game, and then start him with about a 125-130 PC (assuming he's at 100%), and set the inning availability so that no other pitcher could come in before the 9th.

TulsaG that was my point. Controversial because of WIS fame, not real life. Have used him many times to get to playoffs but seldom do I have a team that gets into a must Win Game 7...I usually get knocked out way before..hahah. WIS did address the innings and appearance logic to correct but in my mind there is still one more easy one that could be done.
I remember a WS a few years back where Tom Seaver (one of his better years) started 3 of 4 games..pitched 26 innings and gave up like 3 ER. Of course I lost all three. You cannot Win a Series when someone is on a roll like that. WIS has been decent at normalizing stats over eras but that is not only physically impossible but probably clearly a loophole. The loophole being exploited now is getting two 375-400 IP elites (Walsh, Walter, etc.) Who started 40 games and probably completed them all. I have seen multiple owners simply use them every other game basically for 6 IP and they both start 70 games. Ifs basically the reverse of superman relief w/ SP. To each their own but simple fix seems to be fatiguing quickly for starting 2 out of 3 or (400IP/154 games is about 2.5) Allow someone like that up to 3IP/game average or fatigue them. I know it is all PC based but you cannot bank pitches...not pitching for two weeks shouldnt allow you to throw 300...haah. Its not cheating and I give folks credit for staying within the rules, just think WIS could easily solve that one. I like to build teams different, try different things, it gets old using gaps and padding stats. This is a fun game...always want it improved..haha. BRING BACK LIVE PLAY.
