Mainstream members of the American Democratic Party aren't openly defending Jim Crow, and voters and voting blocs for the Democratic Party in the 1960s aren't still voting for them today, for the most part. You know that isn't a fair comparison, dahs. You would have to point to an obvious shift in the Italian party system. Also, Italy doesn't have a two-party system, so their party shifts are going to be different than ours.
Look, all I'm saying is that it's not crazy to argue that the far-right leader of the "descendent of fascist party that still has members openly talk about how they like Mussolini and has Mussolini's grandkids running for office" might, maybe be a lil' fascist. Shouldn't even be that controversial.
