Who is best HR slugger?
With 701 homers in 13032 PA so far Pujols has hit one HR for every 18.59 plate appearances.
Bonds = 12606/762 for 16.54.
Aaron = 13941/755 for 18.46
Ruth = 10626/714 for 14.88.
It's still hard to beat the Babe. But wait: Mark McGwire hit 583 in 7660 PA for 13.14.
This season so far Aaron Judge hits an HR every 11.08 PA (676/61).
Maris = 698/61 for 11.44.
Ruth = 691/60 for 11.52.
Judge looks great then -- so long as you discount Bobds (664/73=9.09) and McGwire (681/70=9.73).
We can assume that Bonds's drug use enhanced his HR ability Or that McGwire's quite different drug use enhanced his, but both had strong HR totals before alleged drug enhancements. We'll probably never know anything for sure, except that Babe Ruth was ahead of his time like no other batter ever (and apparently did so with an unhealthy lifestyle).
