If a Juco has no playing time preference is he likely to take a red shirt?

I am recruiting for a D3 team, this guy is a D2 but would come in with lower rating points than my other 3 bigs.

Given the update to inform of redshirt being only -30 AP, I’d advise doing that with a home visit or campus visit. But fair warning, I haven’t tried it yet as a D3 recruiting up.

I am not sure, I just read what they posted about the redshirt cheating scandal, BUT .. I thought it was -30 AR if you promise and RS and then take the promise off (ie, we may or may not RS you). I think is more than that if you leave the RS promise on. But someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Not likely he will take a redshirt from a D3. Odds may increase if recruiting is deep into the second session and he has no one else considering.

He will if you sweeten the pot with home visits and/or a campus visit.

Update on the Juco... I gave him a home visit and told him of the red shirt. He accepted the red shirt but I dropped (by 25-50%) in HV, CV, Scholarship, and Minutes. They are climbing back up over the last couple cycles. I am not sure if I will offer the guy but it was a nice opportunity to see how much it would effect a Juco player and if they would accept a red shirt.

note that with these redshirt and promise situations, and also pulling scholarships - the response of the recruit is heavily dependent on the recruit's level relative to the prestige / division of your school. this is based on the recruit's player rank, like #5 SG etc, and really its about the score behind the scenes not the listed rank shown to us (but the player rank shown to us is the best proxy we have).

anyway, the way this juco responded could vary wildly from how the next responds. but, a juco with the same ratings next year, being recruited by a team with the same division/prestige as you, would likely respond the same next year. anyway, just kinda take care not to extrapolate too far based on this one guy. players react very differently to redshirts and stuff when they are lower, on par, or higher than the school recruiting them.
