I have a hitter needing assignment and I would like to assign him to a minor league club. When I select "Assign" and "Add Roster Move" I am told that he "may not be assigned back to the big league team since he was designated for assignment. You may trade him, release him, or assign him to a minor league club if he clears waivers and accepts the demotion."

What am I doing wrong?

Once you select "assign" a row of radio buttons appears below (but still above the "add roster move" button).
You must select a minor league level as the default is likely ML.

You DFA'd him. Did you place him on waivers? You can't assign him until he clears waivers

I guess not. I think maybe what confused me was that I was told he needed assignment so I assumed that meant the roster move called "assign."
Maybe I'll figure this game out one day.

Yeah, he shows up there for lack of a better place to put him, because he's not on a roster.

He WILL be needing assignment if he clears waivers. For now he's kinda in limbo waiting to see if anyone claims him.

This also explains why the radio buttons didn't appear.
