The NWPRE (No Whining Progressive - Random Edition) needs one owner as we enter 1915. We have had few openings in our league's history, so this is a unique opportunity to get into a progressive that is very different from most others out there. We are only looking for experienced progressive owners who have a very good reputation on this site. It is also highly recommended that you have a VERY good understanding of probability.
What makes us different? Well, a few things, but the most important to understand are:
-- Each season's draft order is entirely random. All 12 teams have an equal shot at drafting first.
-- Each owner has 90 contract points to allocate across a 33-man roster. A contract point equates to a season. Once a player's contract expires, he becomes a free agent and will enter the next draft. This means we have a LOT more roster turnover than most progressives.
-- We allow players to be drafted 2 seasons before they enter the SLB database (and they can be kept for 2 seasons after they actually retired). For example, Babe Ruth is NOT in the 1915 draft pool - he was drafted back in 1913.
-- The previous two rules mean that our draft pools are larger than you are accustomed to, and do NOT look like the draft pools from other progressives that are playing the same season. So any previous draft notes that you have are likely to be less useful to you here, as will resources like crazystengel's draft database, etc.
-- Last, and most important, in each season of our league all 33 players on each roster are assigned a RANDOM season that could be +/- 2 from the season we are actually playing. In 1915, each player in the league will have a 10% chance of drawing 1913, 20% 1914, 40% 1915, 20% 1916, and 10% 1917. Which means you won't know until right before the season starts which versions of your players you will be using. Just like a real GM doesn't know what he's going to get from his roster. You could end up with a great season or a mediocre one. You could end up with an excess of PA at a critical position or a severe shortage. You could end up with a dozen or more players that are unusable because you drew seasons when they are not in the database. You could put together a great roster and still end up with a lousy team.
Hopefully by now you understand the "Random" part of our league's name. And please reread the "No Whining" part. Whining about any of the above will not be tolerated. This league is for owners who want a sophisticated challenge and can accept the fact that they will occasionally get absolutely screwed by randomness.
