Unassigned at the end of the season Topic

In the many seasons I've played this game I don't think I know what happens to unassigned player on my roster when the season ends. For example, I sign a drafted player not knowing that today the World Series is ending. He signs, but the Series is over and I cannot assign him to a team.

What happens to him?

I'm not totally certain but I think he becomes a free agent. Anyone else confirm?
