If a player is on the wire and also rule 5 pool, which takes precedent? In this specific case the player became avail during rule 5 freeze which means the rule 5 event will take place before the wire process completes. I think that answers my question but wondering if there are nuances?

Rule 5 takes place first. If the player is not selected in the Rule 5 draft, then he continues going through the regular waiver process.

Thanks. And a semi related Q, what happens to FA's that are signed during R5 roster freeze but unassigned to majors?

What about same scenario about signed FA's but offered minor league contract and an invite? Are those guys going to be in the rule 5 pool b/c I am unable to assign then to my 40 man roster?

If you sign a FA right before the Rule 5 draft and you can't assign them to your team, they will NOT be available for the Rule 5 draft. You will be able to assign them to your team the next day.

I'm not 100% sure on the last questions, but I would imagine if you signed them as a FA right before then it will work the same. Maybe someone who has done this before can answer.
