I see a need to bring in revenue, just as it is in soccer. If teams are going to set themselves up to fail at the beginning of the season or tank at the end, to get the top draft pick in next season's draft. They may not do that when all is said and done. Because, if they can't finance their franchise, they lose it. That will definitely stop owners from using a feast or famine strategy. And in the end, will drive owners to make their teams as competitive as it can be. When those owners do lose their franchise, they will have to pay 35 dollars to get their franchise back the next season. Franchises shouldn't get the same amount of money at the beginning of the season. (185 million) It only promotes segregation of teams..... I read some of the comments on the lottery and one of the comments was to "fire" owners for not being competitive. But, what really caught my eye was the person saying that wouldn't happen, because there is money involved and HBD would lose a customer. I don't see HBD losing money or too many customers, I see them making even more money and keeping other customers. That's because looking at HBD as an investment of ones time and money, people are going to be a lot more fugal all around.
Knowing that an owner can be fired is going to change how people think. WhatIfSportsFairplay guidelines already states that an owner can lose their franchise (known as replacement) after 80 games and their record is .250 or lower. Montreal Epos is a perfect example of what people are doing with their franchise. They dump ML payroll, stockpile MiL talent and are able to transfer wads of cash to get the best IFAs. In the end, even though Montreal had some great MiL talent that was brought up to the ML, they were lucky to have 9000 people go to a game, and wound up folding the team..... Post your thoughts.
