Expected OBP for hitters? Topic

I have not played in a long time and my memory needs some help. Assuming make up and temper are solid what kind of numbers should I expect with hitter ratings in the 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s?

Not super easy to answer because there of course isn't one "hitter rating" to look at. Contact, Power, vL, vR, Eye and Speed will all play a part in how a player hits. If you're looking at 60s across the board, I'd expect slash lines along the lines of 230/290/370. If you're talking 80s across the board more like 310/390/560.

Of course you're rarely going to find a guy with 60s or 80s across the board and are going to have to determine for yourself which categories are more/less important for consistent production.

I believe that speed does not contribute to OBP at all in this game. I base this on the fact that, across a sample size of 50 or so that I studied, my batting average predictor (based on contact and splits only) was equally accurate for the players who led the league in infield hits (who are all very fast) as for slow players with similar other ratings. I concluded from this that an infield hit was an event that the sim first decided was a hit, and then occasionally called an "infield hit" based on the speed of the batter. Speed does appear to add extra bases onto hits (eg, changes singles to doubles). I admit that if I'm right it's stupid. But I still think I'm right.

The ratings that I think contribute to OBP are Eye, VsR, VsL, Contact, and Temper if below 30 (increases HBP). Power, I think (based on what happened across worlds when they nerfed power about 13 years ago), almost entirely converts singles into homers and as such doesn't contribute to OBP.

By the way, in my opinion, and in a neutral park, and with temper > 30:
All hitting ratings = 50: ~.220/.270/.320
All hitting ratings = 60: ~.250/.310/.380
All hitting ratings = 70: ~.270/.340/.450
All hitting ratings = 80: ~.300/.380/.520

Speed is an incredibly minor part of the way I project average, but I find that very speedy players can see another several points on their Avg. (also the inverse for very slow players).

Also pitching you're getting, catchers PC for example. Hitting parks vs pitching parks..

I think that high contact, high speed players tend to beat out a lot more infield hits than other players. But I have no data to back this up. Maybe it's just because that's the way I want it to be, so that's the way I play it.
