Round 7 - The Championship Round: A Look Ahead! Topic

Being a Geography Major/History Minor, I’ve been wanting to form a league – or at least a round of a tournament based on those areas. I’ve been wracking my brain for a few weeks now, trying to make it all work for Round Seven but I just haven’t been able to get what I want condensed into one league. It will either be a two or three league concept that will have to wait for the future sometime. Anyway, I’ve come up with an idea that’s not too thought-provoking but what I think will make for an interesting Round Seven / Championship Round.

Simply put, I’m using the six divisions of MLB that are currently in use today. With the exception of the Houston Astros who switched leagues back in 2013, it all should work out where you can do your draft searches based on divisions.

The National League will obviously be the NLE, NLC and NLW as they currently look today. The American League – ditto. Each division will consist only of players who played for one of those five teams during the years 1998 – 2023. No Astros can be picked to play in the N.L. West. For the A.L. West with the Astros – when you do your search for all available players in the A.L. West, you’ll have to search for A.L. West AND the Houston Astros. This will give you all the Astros players from 1998 through 2012 as well as the ones from 2013 to 2023.

Starting with the Top Dog (when it comes to W’s) from Round SIX, we’ll just go in order where owners will pick which division they want to be in. EDIT: At that time, the owner will also select which draft position he wants in that division (i.e., first, second, third or fourth, etc.). Once all 24 owners know which division they’re in, we’ll set up six different draft boards – one for each division, and track each draft there. Once all of the draft boards are set up, we’ll give the customary 24-hour period where if someone in a division wants to switch draft spots with one of the other three he’s drafting against, he can make his request.

All players in each draft are exclusive. Once Pedro Martinez is off the board in the A.L. East, no one else in the A.L. East can have any season of his. However, he’s also going to be available in the N.L. East with his 2005 season. The drafts will be run snake style (i.e., 1-4, 4-1, 1-4, etc.)

@thejuice6, just a thought, maybe also let the owners select which initial draft position they want when they select their division? Could be times you don't just want the highest pick remaining.

Starting with the Top Dog (when it comes to W’s) from Round SIX, we’ll just go in order where owners will pick which division they want to be in. The draft order will automatically be set up in the order owners enter their division.

This makes sense and shouldn't be too much of a complication.

For example, the person with the first pick can chose the NL West and to have 4th pick.

Sounds good to me.
