Shout-out to one of my players - Edward Wirth Topic

Just wanted to give some recognition to my D3 player Edward Wirth (PF) from Hartwick College. He's just finished probably the most successful individual career out of any recruit I have ever had.

He finished his career as a 3x All-American and 2x National Player of the Year, with over 2500 career points and over 1000 career rebounds. And just lead Hartwick to its first ever D3 national championship this past season in Crum, during his final season with the program.

(I'm sure there is a way to add a direct link to his profile, but I'm not sure how to do it. If someone would let me know, I'd be happy to edit it to make it easier for anyone who would like to check him out.)

I always love reading these little bits on players. I've got a group chat with 3 other IRL buddies and I sent my all-time "Mount Rushmore" of HD players, I know roughly their all-times too. Players that turned around a team in a special way, won a title, etc.

Glad this player made such an impact and congrats on the title!

Spike, I don't know if you know this, but I coached Lil' Ed in 10 year old rec basketball. Even back then his work ethic was second to none. We always knew he wasn't going to be the fastest or have the best shot but all of us in Oxon Hill are happy he blossomed under your guidance. Go Clippers!

the reason I've played for so long is keeping track of all my players over the years. I have a Mount Rushmore too lol

of course I also have an even bigger "What If?" of players I can't believe didn't get it done for me. The real meaning of What If Sports imo lol

Thanks, upsetcity! Wirth has definitely made my own personal Mount Rushmore of HD players. He was even that highly recruited either. Was a diamond in the rough for sure.

Thanks, davis! When he made Player of the Year his junior season, I was a bit surprised. I knew he was having a good year but it was a bit unexpected. Once he got it though, I knew he'd have a great chance at two. He's the only player I've ever had that got it twice.

Trentonjoe, thanks for nurturing that work ethic of his! When our scout first came across Lil' Ed, they though, okay he might have some potential there but nothing really jumped out at them and they moved on to the next kid. Then some time later, I happened to be driving through Maryland and thought I'd take a second look at him and was glad I did. He wasn't the most coordinated player but he is hungry to learn the game and had the drive to be a winner. So, of course we asked him to come play for us and were pleasantly surprised at how fast he developed. We all knew quite early on that we had found a special kind of player.

Hey bx! Glad you're still around! :) And yeah, what can I say, we have some great low post coaches in our staff here at Hartwick, xD just kidding ofc. Yeah sometimes it helps to get a little lucky with the recruits. Knew he'd get into the 60's at LP at least, and that was enough for me to take a chance on him. Definitely wasn't expecting him to reach 100, but I'm not complaining. lol
