I had perhaps my best HBD experience in a world 2 seasons ago when I took over a team about 40 gms into season. Team was at .390 winning % and last in over pitching stats and just crap everywhere. I inherited a ton of unused player $ and had some odd players that I knew others might find value in. I used a lot of $ on scrap heap FA upgrades (truly scraps 40 gms into season) and fixing minors.
I then started trading away the oddballs who were one dimensional (pitchers who look good to some but not to me)and made a dramatic run up the division ladder falling just short of playoffs even though I was ending with an under .500 team (division was really weak).
The next season was mine from the beginning and I signed stud FAs + traded my way to a franchise best ever 104 wins + division + deep playoff run.
Alas, I didn't re-up in time and commish was AWOL to messages, so when the league filled about 5 or 6 weeks in real time later, I missed taking the team.
That replacement year and the following epic franchise win year was REALLY satisfying. I think I turned over 95% of the team. Great fun
Long way to say that the sub 500 year attached to my career owner stats, but it was well worth the fun.
