Other than maintaining eligibility, do player grades matter? Does it compliment development in some way?

Nope,

HS GPA pairs with WE to promote better IQ improvement but their college GPA only matters in maintaining eligibility (inels need to maintain over a 2.7 GPA in D1 to play a 4th season).
