2025 Round 2 $140M — AL West Draft Topic

I was really monitoring the rosters earlier and I have an idea of what people need, but now I just have a depth chart of the positions I need and I'm picking based on how devastated it would be to my team if I didn't get the top guy on my list. You just cleared 2/3 of my DH list of 200-300 PA players I need to platoon with Kal Daniels, so now I need to jump on Joe Wood here. Maybe your roster chart told you that!

Joe Wood
Brett Butler

No, your strategy is logical. I'm just complaining.

Rick Auerbach

Let’s finish this thing!

Yuck you took 2 of my picks. Dierker especially hurts the plan. Need some time…

I wish you took him so I didn’t overthink so much! There’s still a bunch of SPs left with similar stats

Great job of recruiting btw Ozo, you got good owners with a different mindset than I so I can still field a viable team without my usual Hornsby lol

I don't know if I can take credit for recruiting anyone but you actually — we got emanes by default and jbohrman just couldn't stay away from me. But I have to thank you for bringing the Astros. Without them this would have been painful relative to the Yankees and Cardinals divisions.

I don’t have much experience with the original franchises between 1920 and 1990 outside of the Cardinals and the Big Red Machine. Went into this thinking I was going to make a doubles team at League Park, but clearly pivoted with the George Foster pick

You're going to have a strong offense. Way stronger than mine at least.

My strategy, after the top 4-5 hitters went, was to load up on the limited good pitching there is in our pool since most of the pitching lets up too many walks, we have two stronger divisions in our conference (that walk a lot), and the difference between the #2 and #4 options at each infield position is pretty low. Basically didn't think we could outhit our opponents but saw a limited opportunity to compete via good pitching.

What I think worked against me was that I went for lower IP pitchers than you guys, so I spent more picks on pitchers. They are better pitchers, but I needed more of them.

Unfortunately, the difference between #4 and #5 at some positions is larger than the difference between #2 and #4, and I did not foresee the low PA picks (Bond, Doran, etc) being relevant to you guys since there is a DH in this league. Oh well. My strategy failed but it has been a fun time regardless. Maybe we still have a shot.
Definitely some regrets to be had in this draft. Usually the strat that works for me is a great offense, a cheap rotation, and overpriced bullpen. Hindsight would’ve said to skip Feller and Coveleski, and go right for Bill Henry and Co. I would’ve been fine with the unselected SPs (Lemon, McDowell, Wilson, Donahue who I just won a WS w/ as my ace in a 120M league)

OK I worked it out and I'm going to pivot off Dierker and the similar pitchers and go all in on homer prevention. Lets hope my team range can help out with the high OAV.

Pete Donohue
John Franco
Jim Greengrass

Re-adding my post that d_rock replied to now that emanes made his pick:

Anyway here are my picks:
Larry Gardner
Dave Concepcion
Denis Menke
Bill Dawley
Jim Brosnan
(I was going to grab Dierker here just to mess with you guys if he was still available)
Les Mann

Final team stats:
Hitting: 6,769 PAs, 180 HRs, .335 / .416 / .528 $70.8M
Pitching: 1,468 IP, 0.95 WHIP, 0.49 HR/9, $54.9M
