GD has lost all sense of community Topic

I'm having a crisis of faith in Gridiron Dynasty. There are so few humans coaching. Most of my games are against Sim-AI teams. Many of the human coaches with whom I had developed some online connection have departed. Of the human coaches who remain, very few are active on this Forum. Likewise, there is very little communication in the conference chats nowadays.
.
When I first joined GD five years ago, there was much more activity in this Forum. There were several new posts every day, and each day one or two of those posts became good threads. Every week there was at least one or two topics of lively discussion. What happened? Now, this Forum is like a ghost town.
.
We also used to have Majique's weekly YouTube show "This That And The Other" and each week you could at least see the faces of some human coaches. I didn't realize at the time how important that was in helping to bring some sense of community to GD. I'm only realizing it now that TTATO is gone. Like that 70s song said, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.
.
Of the few human coaches who are here, many are just faceless pseudonyms with whom I feel I have no connection at all.
.
I am now finding myself continually asking, what's the point? Why am I spending time on this? Sure, there is still the lure of the challenge; can I build a team and win a championship? But even those victories now seem hollow. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
.
We've got to do something to breathe life back into this community. Soon. Before it's dead.

The Forums have been supplanted by Discourse. Not so sure that was a good thing.

Fewer Worlds, reinstate Head Coach firings (especially if keeping Elites), account-wide flag to bypass D3/D2 requirement in a new world for experienced coaches, consider changes to Vision at lower levels (high barrier to entry).

Last time I looked at it, I was not impressed.

Not much chat on discord either from what I have seen. Some, but not tons.

Maybe the new owners have ideas - probably needs a re-write.
Adding to hatroq: DIII should be entry level tutorial only for all worlds. New coaches get a number and those without history at DIII would start in that tutorial world. No vision advantage, max five seasons. DII would be similar - but with the expanded coaching options, no vision advantage, max five seasons. Apologies to those who want to coach their alma mater, but this game needs competition. D1AA and D1A would expand to more worlds once you graduate the DIII and DII levels (coaches who have been through these levels need not repeat them). D1AA would have no firing consequence and D1A would have lenient standards for all teams except elites. All players at these levels could be recruited by all teams. Elites determined by 5 season success rates and fluid. Top D1AA teams may be more prestigious than bottom D1A teams.
Much more could be added to those two divisions competitiveness if desired. Anything is possible if a new version of GD is to be introduced.

Coming up on 20 years played off and on in November, and it has been a slow and sad slide. I hope the new owners can make significant changes to the game to make it relevant to today's game. Conferences, Teams, NIL, Transfer Portal, etc. New users will be hard-pressed to stick around and learn how to play a dated game.

The community comes from members and has a grand history of player-driven content. Heck, I recall in Camp in my 1st season we had to stay up late in hopes of getting a team, all teams were filled at D3 in multiple worlds. ASC in Camp, I built a website for all teams with walk in music, etc. dwhit34, cyphillis, others..I wrote a guide to the game in v2 that was pinned for a long time.

We need more users, to do that we need significant updates. Can the owners take this system and do that, I don't know..I know ChatGPT tells me to build it from scratch it would be roughly $500k..

I totally agree with this for D3 (although I do like having 1 D3 team since it is less time intensive and not as serious), but if I had to drop all my D2 teams I'd probably just quit to be honest. I love the play style difference between D1A, D1AA, and D2.

I think they would end up losing players if they put a max on the seasons people could play at D3 & D2.

But the fewer worlds i do think if it was thought out well could help the competitive nature at each division

Most of my social interaction with the game are done through Discord. I talk with slush almost every day about various things, we are constantly bouncing ideas off each other. I also DM with a ton of other coaches through Discord. I also partake in a couple of the D3 super conferences that exist the chats thrive. I think the social aspect of the game still exists, you just got to go out and find it.

Yup discord is the best! You can have a ton of ongoing conversations with coaches without having to wait a century for responses like on the forums

Big hit when majique left. I think an even bigger hit when he wrote his farewell post and listed a few exploits that he was aware of. I think that struck a chord with quite a few coaches, and they silently left the game.

I also agree with the above posts about veteran coaches being able to bypass the nonsense of having to start at Div 3 when they want a new div1 team. You get your new div1 team after 4 months of playing and paying for part of the game you have no interest in. It's not a money thing for GD because they will get that 4 months of payments either way. I can't think of a good reason why they don't change it.

magique brought people in - I watched some episodes and was on his show once - Really think some type of advertising could bring people in
make a great add/commercial and maybe use some people who play on this site various games - they could make the SIM teams twice as good
which would help with many of the teams SIM - If someone started a show again that could help too - maybe just 30 minutes and get a
crossover of people like murphy that do the SIM basketball version etc. Still for the Oles the funnest fantasy out there. There use to be some threads
of previews of playoffs etc. that was neat to check out. 2 of my dls are currently locked up in a world but I like that - don't want them in class and at best
occasionally following the law.

When I joined you couldn't get a team ; any team. Then there was lots of interaction , taunting, kidding around etc. Lots of people especially conf mates to help those with problems. For better players lots of playoffs against the Many other better players.
The game has had its day. Perhaps if they could implement some of those ideas and advertize to get new players it would have a resurgence. The game is basically still fun - IF you play against other humans.

I came back because of the new ownership. I thought for sure that they would reenergize the entire website and refresh everything. I have teams in every GD world to help fill their coffers as best I can. But what have they done? We have a new way to login. We were supposed to get updates every two weeks from the owner, that hasn't happened. There have been no game updates to any of the games as far as I can tell. I heard they partnered with a podcast for advertising. Like, that's it? Super disappointing.
