I wonder if we ever see a new d1a champion. The only two I see happening are Georgia tech and nc State. The rest seem extremely unlikely

You don't think Iowa State could do it?

Interesting lost and glad you're back. You may have helped me find my next DII in Dobie.

any of those in power 5 conferences are very doable. outside of the power 5 is virtually impossible since the playoff format dropped. back in the day as long as you could get one team to make level 5 bowls, your conference made a lot of money. it was very hard back then, but also very doable. i saw it done a few times, and had i finished the regular season 2 instead of 3 one year with ohio in warner they wouldn't be on this list. however, the degree of difficulty has gone from model airplanes to rocket engineering with the playoff pay structure. you would need help. the best coach you can think of can't just go to a mid major conference and make money by themselves. there needs to be several teams in the conference who can win a game or three in the playoffs. thats just where the challenge starts too. without that its not even possible.

I checked today and every one of these schools in Divisions II and III has at least one active human coach right now except:
  • Augustana (S.D.), Division II
  • Macalester, Division III
Deviser has vowed to take over Augustana next season.

Norwich is the most interesting challenge/curse. In Yost, GlennQuagmir just took over. In Rockne, sjurat has been there 217 seasons with zero national championships. In Stagg, excel418 has been there 60 seasons, zero championships. There must be some sort of "Norwich Curse," because sjurat definitely knows what he's doing. He used to beat me pretty regularly at Akron/Leahy back in the day.

You make a legitimate point. Some schools seem to have a curse or something. I had Wake Forest for a number of seasons in Yost. I brought it up to top 5 talent for a stretch and made it to the semis. But couldn't take it all the way and it seemed as if there was a disadvantage built in at times. Then I look across all worlds and Wake is near the bottom of success in the history of every world. Then again maybe in my case it was just the coach.

Just like in real life, there are more bad situations than bad coaches.
