Can someone please explain this result to me?  Is this just chalked up to random, predetermined, nonsense?  A majority of my matchups were superior and he gets a +21 FTA, +10 fouls (granted 6 were intentional), and shoots from 3 the way he did although I played a +3 defense?

My main gripe is the 20 points from his 45 ATH, 63 SPD SG against my 73 ATH, 74 SPD, 83 DEF (A+ IQ) guard who played 35 of the 40 minutes and had a 4 to 1 foul disadvantage.  Really?

I am sure there are a few "tweaks" I should have done but this seems absolutely ridiculous.  I could have played uptempo due to his lack of depth but my depth is awful and my starting 5 are very solid.

Thanks for letting me vent.

The first thing that jumps out at me as that you played your starters too many minutes, so it makes sense to me that he beat you in the second half. Other than that, he had a 90 per guy shoot well (5-11) from 3pt range. You did have a solid defender on him, but sometimes good shooters just have good games. I wouldn't call that random, predetermined nonsense at all, I'd just say that sometimes it happens, both here and real life.

Id say it was an upset.  Whether you want to call the results random is individual preference.

One flaw in your gameplan is I also do not understand why you dont use your bench more and go uptempo.  Against inferior opponents, the more posessions you get, the less chance for upsets.

Mully, I dont think my bench is solid at all. I play m2m and my depth have awful ath and def ratings. My starters have great stamina so I tend to lean toward slowdown to keep my starters in more. During pbp, I dont see them orange or red so I didnt see it being an issue.

Maybe my thought process is wrong here?

Girt,

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, most of my games this year, I have been a 2nd half team with my starters playing same minutes. :)

They have great sta ratings so playing slowdown, they dont get tired easily.

I'd have to second mully's point.  IMHO, the game should have been played with Central Ok. playing uptempo and Missouri W. playing slowdown. For me, the gameplan would be based on those three walk-ons that Missouri W. is carrying.  Even if you think your bench isn't that great, the fact is that you have 6 to bring in compared to 4 and Central Ok's team stamina is much better.   Zone offsets that somewhat for Missouri W., but, I'd have to bet, not enough.

No matter what, Missouri W. had at least some chance at an upset at home.

I have to agree with mully too.  I mostly use slowdown to try to keep a game close where I feel like I'm outmatched.

I have a good example of using the slowdown incorrectly is this season with my Wisconsin La Crosse team.  I forgot to switch my tempo settings and played a slowdown against a very inferior sim River Falls team.  That kept the game close in the second half and they beat me by 1.  (their only conference win this season btw )

I just played them again, this time running uptempo to take advantage of my much deeper and more talented team.  I won by 22.

Granted, my case is an extreme where that was my one overlying mistake.  There may be more to your situation than just tempo, but that's a good place to start.

This is definitely a game when just about everything went right for your opponent and wrong for your team.  But what everyone is saying about playing uptempo is true.  Not only are your reserves better than their reserves, but your starters' stamina is higher than their starters', which means your starters would either be playing against their reserves, or your starters would be playing against their more fatigued starters.  Either way, you win.  So I would've gone uptempo as well.  All in all though, I'd just chalk it up to bad luck and forget about it.

I feel a little like you, there is nothing like gameplanning a +3 or more defense, you have a monster defender set up on a guy whose only real strength is a high perimeter rating and the guy still hits a bunch of 3's.  I mean yes a guy can get hot from hitting 3's, but your defense was specifically set up to limit if not take that away.  It is like if Michael Jordan was locked in to shut down a player like Steve Kerr and Kerr was able to light him up.

Hahah.  I think the Jordan reference was a bit much but I understand where youre coming from.  :)

I should have played uptempo, or at the very least normal, but you live and you learn.  And some bad results do happen.
