What is the best distro to give your players against the Full Court Press?

Doesn't that depend on how good your respective players are at each position/rating attribute?

I try to have the fastest team I can so I like to up my 3's shot against a press. I feel if you can beat the initial press you will get open looks. just my .02

I emphasize speed and BH when setting my distro against the FCP and have had decent success. Also, try to play your big men who're fast and can pass. Passing helps them beat the traps.

If you have studs you're going to want to give them a higher distro against the press then you would normally. Although they will be taking shots against the double team, they will also get a lot more open looks.

Amazing how different these answers are. I try to get the best passing team on the floor I can and I try to even out the distro a little more than I would against man. I don't want guys (even my studs) taking shots against the dt - I'd rather them them past to the open guy who is merely average talent-wise because they'll hit a higher percentage than the studs getting dt'd.

When I was coaching press teams, the opponents I feared the most were those with a lot of good passers and good big men that could pound us inside. As a coach, that leaves you with the unappealing option of having to sag back a little, which reduces the press' effectiveness.

nothing works against the fullcourt press, the game will always beat you.

if you ask any strategy ? on the main forum, you will get almost opposite answers, many from coaches with very good records. Ask for the best distro playing motion for example. or ask for the best strategy when you know -5 is coming, or any other strategy ?.

For me 'the vs FCP?', I play my best lineup and sub patterns, with the best strategy I can come up with regardless of press, man, or zone and take my chances.

Thats odd, there seems to be a distinct shortage of FCP teams with perfect records for a strategy that you 'can't win against'

Says the guy who runs the press on all his teams, including a recently picked up DIII team that immediately started transitioning to a press.

Open mouth, pour in Kool-Aid.

So?

How is what you just said a proof of anything? Press had the best combination of IQ's for that school(Dartmouth) after I recruited(nine players). Brandeis(THe other division two team) Was similar: Recruited nine players and what their IQ was best suited for was press. And after your a system a year or two its self - perpetuating. I stayed with press because the first team I ran used it and I am most familiar with it - next team I run I'm probably going for a Zone. Actually, usually I run a combination of Zone and press. Dartmouth is going to transition next year to running mostly zone with Press in specific situations where appropriate. But I am working on developing the press IQ's this year with the team.

Just because I'm using a press doesn't make your whining any more valid. You neatly dodged the point while trying to engage in an ad homeniem attack.

I still want you to show me the teams that have Dramatically less talent then all the teams they play that have a dominating record against them nonetheless - just because they run an FCP. Surely if its 'magical' you can do this?

(Note: Anecdotes about individual games you think you shouldn't have lost don't do it)
