LOL, I suspect I know who you refer to as a pompous, self-righteous blowhard. I put a post in his thread commenting on something he said in his post: << If you want full minor league rosters, you have to promote certain players(C, SS, CF) beyond their capabilities. >>

I pointed out that this is the same argument swamp makes -- that there are not enough "good" SS's. Swamp and mikey both draw an arbitrary line, and if there are not enough players above that line they think the problem is with the game, not the arbitrary line. Both ignore the fact that the best tier of players will play at the highest level, the next tier of players will play at the next level, and on down. If the players abilities at a particular level are not what they expect, the problem is not with the empirical fact of the player's abilities, the problem is that swamp and mikey haven't adjusted their expections in line with the reality. If I recall correctly, mikey disagreed with this argument when swamp made it, but now he supports the same argument based on the same flawed reasoning that swamp used.

Okay, you're "unnamed" now. Not that it mattered, all I was doing was agreeing with your post, which makes a very good point.

Yeah, those signing bonuses in rounds 15-25 really add up ... Sorry, didn't mean to be mean, but you're really reaching now.

Wow, mikey is getting positively killed in his training camp position players thread. That's embarrassing for the poor guy.

It would bring about another question, so a bunch of minor league fodder goes to TC players, and since the draft is shortened, we need to sign a good 8-10 players to fill out our rookie league roster, so we put in the minimum 8k bid on 10 different TC players. Another team comes along and offers the same 8k mimimum contract to the player.

Where does that player sign? Would you offer a ST invite to up the ante? You certainly wouldn't offer a major league contract to someone that is nothing but minor league fodder.

So assuming all bids are going to be even, where does he sign? First team in? Better franchise? Team with less depth at his position? Seems like I'd rather have an extended draft to fill out my minor league depth, then sign the kids off my draftee list to fill the holes that I have in the low minors.

it could mean between 100k and 200k. its not super significant but it matters. id rather not pay it to a total meaningless group of players if i dont have to...it could be the diff between signing a big ifa and just missing out.
