Recruiting against simmy D1 Topic

What does it take to win a recruit over simmy in D1? I know location and money are no object for him? Hoping for some thoughts

Why is money no problem for him? Since when do simmies have unlimited cash?

Generally (from what I have noticed) SIMS spend a lot more on individual players they go after. Not saying they have more $ but if they have recruiting $ for 5 open schollies a lot of times they will use a lot of that up front on 1-2 guys. Then they seem to pick up lesser players nobody else recruited in their second cycle with their over cash.

So the first thing I would look at is home many open spots they have and how many players they are going after. If you have more cash than him and he is spreading what he has out among multiple players then make a run. But if he has prestige, distance and more concentrated $$ than you it's probably not worth it. I learned that the hard way early on in D1 when I wanted a C transfer to fill a short term need and kept throwing money at a SIM recruit out of principle of not losing out to a SIM. 24K later I realized I had no shot to get this guys attention and I ended up ruining my draft class that year out of ignorance.

Simmies recruit open scholarships - 2. So if they had 5 openings they would be targeting 3 guys.

I am going to add some info about d1 recruiting about simmies to my new coaches guide since this question is asked at least once every week.

In my experience, you can grab a lot of guys away from a SIM of equal or lower prestige for about 12-14K.

However, if the guy you are pursuing is the SIM's primary target, it can cost a lot more. I once spent about 40K to win a battle against a SIM. The guy was about 200 miles from me and the SIM had B prestige while I had B-. He was considering me at about 20K, but I didn't take the lead until 38-39K.

Using FSS on SIM-considered targets can help. If you get a message similar to "He and SIM are tight," it may take tons of cash. But if you get, "He's keeping his options open" or "He's not completely sold", the bill should be less. However, I'm not sure of the ratio of strongly vs weakly held recruits by a SIM.

Found this and am going to bump it instead of starting a new thread.

A- D-II prestige team wanting to battle a D-I SIM AIM with D- prestige.

Distance is also squarely on my side.

Good or bad idea?

Crappy D-I sims literally went after all 4 of my early targets.

How many spots do they have to fill and how many guys is that school going after?

You are probably going to have to spend a lot more than you would have otherwise so you may be leveraging your budget for one guy that you really want and risk settling for 3 low/cheap guys or walk ons. But I've had D- D1 schools and tried to compete against Sim D- schools and still hadto overpay for the player (and I lost on one SR transfer after spending nearly 20K to a D- school). That last one still stings.

I thought about it at the beginning of this cycle in Naismith. Im A+ and thought about going after a D- sim but I only have 2 open spots so not a good idea. Unless you have tons of money dont do it.

just remember sims are only 200 miles away no matter where they recruit from

And they don't recruit with cash like we do. They recruit with 'points' if I remember correctly. A lot of coaches try to calculate about how much they would have, but it doesn't work the same was as human recruiting.

Def. an aggravating thing. Sims should have same rules as everyone else, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the distance thing.

I have two pull down guys in my state that I can get within 100 miles and the D- SIM from out of state just happens to choose those 2 guys. Similarly ranked guys in other places, the SIM ignores. Frustrating.

I might give it a shot with the guy that's 60 miles away from me, just to see how it works out.
