This is schwarze idea in the regular fourm was going to join but it filled up before I had a chance, so we will see if there is 16 live owners willing to give it a shot.
There are just two many damn teams in Major League Baseball. Let's go back to the days when there were only 8 teams in each league. In this theme, we'll keep just 16 of the current MLB teams (8 AL, 8 NL) and have a 5-round dispersion draft for the allocation of players from the other teams.
I envision that this theme will be ongoing, where each successive league will use a different season. In the years 1969+, we'll run a 16-team league (4x4). Before 1969, we'll run a 12-team league (2x6). There is no requirement where an owner has to commit to more than one year at a time, but my guess is that most will find this theme enjoyable and will want to stay.
League Name: Contraction GM Challenge
Salary Cap: None
Description: The first season that we will use is 2009. Once 16 owners sign up, we will have a lottery to determine a draft order for team selection. Each owner will select one team from the 2009 season (8 AL and 8 NL teams must be selected).
Once the 16 teams are selected, there will be a 5-round player dispersion draft, where the draft order for each round is based on inverse regular season record (i.e., 2009 Yankees will pick last each round). A total of 80 players will be chosen. Only players from the 14 teams not selected are eligible to be taken. AL teams can take NL players and vice-versa. So your 25-man roster will consist of 20 players from your selected team and 5 players from the dispersal draft.
Subsequent Years:If we decided to do another season The team that has the best record at the 120-game mark will get to choose the season that is used for the next iteration of this theme (after I survey how many owners are returning). The draft order for teams for the next iteration will be in inverse order of sim win% at the 120-game mark. In case of ties, I will use the sim expected win%. Any new owners will be randomly placed in the draft order.

Clones: No
SLL: 60 min to make the playoffs

Team Name: Use actual team name (i.e., New York Yankees)
Division Alignment: 4 x 4 (8 AL, 8 NL) Based on East/West as much as possible. Balanced schedule, interleague play.
Multi-team players: I only want one occurance of a player in the league, so for players with multiple teams, only the full-season "player card" will be eligible and the team that he played for last during the season will get ownership of that player. For example, 2009 Matt Holliday belongs to the St. Louis Cardinals.
We'll wait until the 2009 players are released before drafting
