curious if anyone else following the new engine development feels this way

i think the main reason for the rewrite was the current engine was coded in a language that seble and his team did not feel comfortable with the language or making changes in the language. further, I am guessing the engine was somewhat cobblestoned together logically, such that making changes was very difficult - so they decided to start over.

The reason I brought this up, is so many vet users are holding out so much hope that the new release will bring remarkable change to the game.

I think the main thrust of the initial rewrite will be to return the engine to 'normal', followed by a steady stream of updates, which will add the functionality to the game that everyone is interested in. I hope that all of this is done in the 'beta' stage, but I would not bet on it????

That is my understanding OR. I hope it helps as much as it sounds like.

Has the beta testing started yet?

No.

That could be what is going on but this is a long time for a rewrite although I do not know how many lines of code there are nor how many programers. Unless they can't figure out what the old code did, it doesn't take all that much effort to rewrite code into another language unless you have to drag along legacy clients and information, which this should not have to do. However, as soon as you start trying to rewrite AND make changes at the same time, well, then, all time bets are off. I hope they get it cleaner and more stable. Still a lot of little quirks that make me frown but the changes are apparently difficult in the state everything is in. It took them 18 seasons to correct the color of a teams jerseys... Did not affect any of the games I suppose but it offended my eyes everytime I had to look at it, hehehe.

as for it taking this long, note that seb has recently said that some other urgent project took him away from HD temporarily, but that not he is back and plowing full steam ahead.

i could be wrong, but i took that to mean that he is probably not as deep into it as we might have thought/hoped , but that he will try to catch up.
