Post your favorite "HD Old School" trick.

I always had my seniors rated A or A+ for free throws. That and running uptempo was great. Lots and lots of free throws. Sometimes I'd run into a team also shooting 90% from the free throw line. Missing a free throw was a game changer!

I wonder how many teams historical stats were forever distorted.

I used to love to DT my opponents PG and cut off virtually all of his passing. Too bad HD changed that so it's no longer effective.

Playing a minus defense while doubling anyone and everyone who could shoot. Worked way too well.

Using FCP with single digit defenders to create +20 TOs per game while also limiting opponents to < 40% shooting.

Wasnt there a way to set practice minutes to trick the game to giving you like 1000? My favorite method was the spam pulldown method I thrived on that for a few seasons

That cominbed with a porkpower (tm) SuperClass. It was like a team of Dwayne Wade's we would get so much love from the ref's :) Was actually able to recreate that somewhat in Knight World when potential was initially rolled out.

Unfortunately, I didn't learn about this until it was too late. But there used to be a glitch which enabled a DIII school to recruit low-level DI recruits. For 4 seasons, those teams dominated DIII.

I simply recruited bigs who had LP and REB and put a lot of practice time into FTs. Pound the ball down low and be at least +10 in reb and FTM margin. Used to be a guarantee my team would make more free throws in a season than my opponent's would shoot. The change in free throw development really changed my success level in this game.

I thought we were talking about "old school stuff"?

The above is still happening all too frequently (maybe not with single digit defenders, but definitely with teams that are very subpar defensively).

recruiting with my D3 team in hawaii.

I think i recruited one player ever other year or so from hawaii.

most times they were not quite good enogh for D2, but were plenty good for me.

for instance, several bigmen who had really good RE and LP (like sul pointed out) and became my all-time leading rebounders and scorers

if you happened to get in a battle, the trick was to send literally hundreds of calls and letters. there was no limit in those days and it seemed that these calls and letters were almost as effective, dollar for dollar, as a local home or campus visit, and of course waaay more effective than visits from such a great distance.

oh, one other old school thing that i havent seen lately--- players named T-Bone! in fact, in my very first season ever, i went to hawaii and got a kid named T-Bone Canter who turned into a rebounding monster (still my all time leading rebounder) and whom the oneonta fans nicknamed "Hawaiian Punch". i loved that he was named T-Bone, but later found out that there were several T-Bones around. maybe that name is still around (I cant believe they would have discontinued it) but i havent seen it in quite some time.

I'm pretty sure when I won my NC at Puerto Rico, Cayey I was recruiting almost solely with phone calls. I'd throw thousands of them at some recruits.
