What are thoughts on a closer with 14 stamina and 63 durability? The rest of his ratings are very good--he is closer material. I have a pretty good 85-90 win team perhaps and my concern is this guy won't be available for enough games in the 9th inning. Should he be setup A?

make sure he's only available in the 9th, and used only in save situations, with a pitch count around 10-15, and you should be fine, but if you have another guy just as good with better sta/dur then I'd move your 14 sta/63 dur guy to setup A.

I rarely use closers, and I only use a closer when I have a guy like this-- low-stamina stud. Use him just like alogman says, and if you have a guy with better ST/DUR make him the SuA for the 7th-8th innings.

Ok thanks. I play in a lot of close games and I expect to be in a lot of save situations. I think this guy could average 45-50 saves per season, but my guess is due to his inability to pitch consistently in save situations, it'll probably more like 35-40. So that's ok I guess. I have a very very good pitching staff... starting and bullpen.

ninth inning is not necessarily the highest leverage situation. put him at SuA with no closer to make sure he pitches in such.

I always assign low STA relievers to the Closer Role. In my experience, they don't even have to be closer material to be all that succesful, considering they come in with the bases clean every time. Sometimes he may not finish the 9th himself, but if he can give me 2 outs in the last inning, I'll take it.

Actually don't really believe in the "closer" role myself. I have in the past only used a closer if they fit a certain criteria I like. Otherwise, if I don't have a pitcher on my roster that fits my criteria, I've used 3 SuAs and not used any closer; the 3 SuAs just split up the saves and simmy randomly picks one to come in the 9th.

But I think there might be something to this theory about giving a low stamina stud the closer role. I'm going to test it out.

I have had a 20 sta, 63 dur guy at closer for the past 4 seasons, and he's been virtually lights-out for me.

I tried the low-stamina guys at closer awhile ago and never had any luck with them.
