NCOY affects on your resume Topic

So I just won NCOY in D2 Tark and I'm going to be looking for a D1 job when the season is over, and I'm curious as to how much impact that award has on your resume. It seems it should be huge, but for some reason I feel like in HD it won't have as big as an impact as it probably should. Any thoughts on this?

It won't have a huge impact. It'll give you a little bump.

To be honest, I don't think it should have a huge impact. I couldn't even tell you who won NCOY the last 2-3 seasons in real life. It's just not something that carries a lot of actual weight/importance.

The average fan might not know, but it may be useful information for hiring AD's, especially programs at the next level.

I agree with thewizard. I don't think fans follow who wins NCOY but if you were looking to hire a new coach having the NCOY on your resume would be a big selling point. I also think although as a collective group fans may not know who won NCOY, but if your favorite school hired a new coach and he won NCOY the previous season that would resonate with them. But that's really besides the point, as long as it gives me some kind of bump I'll be happy.

Honestly, I think that's mostly coming from your bias in wanting coach of the year to mean more and further your argument. I can't say I've been privy to high-level decision making w. in athletic departments, but I covered college sports and have many friends who still do, and I honestly don't think it would be more than a very small blip on the radar.

I have to agree. And the list above proves that even more. Its not like the coach of the year is coming from Belmont or FIU, they are already at a top notch a job, and wining NCOY adds nothing to their resume.

LOL, I was sure eventually somebody would say this. But this isn't even close to true, do you really think I'm trying to impress a bunch of people I have never met and probably will never meet by telling them I won NCOY (in D2)? It was legitamate question because I've never applied to a D1 school and was hoping I'd get a nice boost from it, and wanted to see if people had any experiences with this. BTW this isn't the first time I won NCOY and you won't find a post about the 1st time anywhere. So it's not like this is the 1st time I've won something and I'm trying to flaunt it.

The real life comparisons you guys are trying to make are sort of off the mark; winning D-2 coach of the year would probably be a solid selling point in real life in terms of advancing to a low-level D-1 school....which is pretty much what the OP's scenario is.

Agreed. I look at it like this, if a school like Fairleigh Dickinson hired a D2 coach it would be much easier to sell to their board, alums and fans that the D2 coach they just hire won NCOY over some other D2 coach who while having good success at D2 never won it. Either way nobody will have ever heard of either coach, but being able to say this guy won NCOY will make people more readily accept the hire. I guess since nobody has any solid evidence either way I guess I'll just wait and see.

I dont think it makes a difference. As others have said the coach usually winning the award is one of the coaches at one of the top schools in the country. Lets say the NCOY's team lost in the Sweet 16; would he really have an edge over the DII coach who won the National Title?

The 1st part is what happens in D1, for D1 coaches, so I agree it's nearly irrelevant for already established D1 coaches. As for the 2nd part let's just hope I don't have to find this out first hand.
