i've run it both ways with the FB offense, and it seems like certain seasons all 0's work better than others. If I have some real studs, then setting the distro works fine. If I'm pretty balanced, all 0's works great, and I'd echo mtngoats' claim about FG% being higher.
In Season 32 in Crum D3, my Dominican team lost in the championship game of the NT and I set my distro that entire season. The only kid I lost after that season was a real stud SG/PG. He was the last of the steroid potential guys WIS allowed, finished 725 Overall with a 448 rating after subtracting WE, ST, and DU. I finished 28-7 that season.
In Season 33, I started by setting my distro largely based on what worked the prior season, though I didn't have that stud guard any longer. I started 6-8 and was pulling my hair out. I switched to all 0's early in conf. play and went 18-3 the rest of the way including winning the NT.
And to normalize things a bit, I looked at only games I played vs teams with an RPI in the top 100. If I include the 2 exhibition games, then I played 15 teams when setting the distro, and 15 teams when I went all 0's. During the 1st half of the season when I was setting the distro, my offensive officiency was 0.88. During the 2H, my off. efficiency was 0.974...and this included the CT (the SLIAC was the #1 rated conference fwiw) in which I lost in the semifinals and the 6 games in the NT against the top teams. And fwiw, my defensive efficiency for the same splits were 0.85 before and 0.866 after.
So clearly, in this example, it was wise of me to go with all 0's. Why that was the case, I'm not real sure. Again, I only lost 1 guy from the prior year and I reached the title game that season by setting my distro. So maybe I f'd up the distro big time in the following season, but I was using my best judgment just as I had the prior season. Whatever the reason, it seemed to work. Is it boring setting all 0's? Yeah, kinda. Can it work? Absolutely.
