Cryptic Sitemail Topic

So, I received the following sitemail early this morning:

"you and oklahoma st. are very shady..wis is looking into it... "

It came from a fellow coach in Phelan who I won a recruiting battle against with my Michigan State team. I showed up on his recruit quite late, so I imagine he's not too happy about that.

I have no idea what the reference to Oklahoma State is about, although I am the former coach of that team (2 seasons ago).

I have never had any prior interactions with this particular coach.

Any suggestions on how I should handle this? Contact WIS? Ignore it completely?

If it's a case of sour grapes and you know you haven't done anything wrong, I would ignore it.

Lmao people are crazy. I would ignore it. Why get so worked up over a player.

I have some more info that may explain things a bit more.

On 11/15, this particular coach posted the following in the Big 12 forum:

"Ok bluejayscott...My alma mater is only a C prestige right now....they won't always be, but Oklahoma St. is going into the grudge book...."

So apparently, Oklahoma St. also won a recruiting battle against this guy.

By pure coincidence, I am the prior coach at Oklahoma St. So this guy could well be suspicious over the fact that both myself, and my prior school each targeted recruits of his this time around.

There was never any contact between myself and Oklahoma State.

Should I preemptively contact CS to dispel any suspicions that may arise, or do nothing unless they contact me?

What could you do wrong? F him

Some people just can't admit that they are lousy recruiters so they have to blame someone else for cheating. It is sad that someone could make their way to a Big 6 conference and still not know that there is no such thing as poaching. I would just ignore him, prof.

prof, i think i would send a little somehting to custsupt.

it oculdnt hurt.

plus, i think the action you have taken by posting here was well advised.

that is odd, but people do get kinda crazy during recruiting.

should you sitemail the coach in question (and explain what you did here)? i am thnking yes. but that is just a gut reaction and i havent thought it through.

I absolutely agree with you about the poaching...

...but I can understand the coaches' concern. It's been very well noted that certain coaches have access to more than 1 team in an area, or even more than 1 D1 team in a world.

Given that he didn't out-and-out accuse you of owning both teams, my guess is that you and OSU both jumped on recruits late and he concluded that some type of collusion was going on between the two of you. It seems wildly paranoid.

Professor, WIS knows that nothing wrong was done. No need to worry.
11/17/2009 12:09 PM
If you did nothing wrong (and no reason to think so) I wouldn't even worry about sending CS anything. instead ask for that coaches address and send him a box of tampons.

Anytime you coach at a mid major you sleep with one eye open when you are on a good recruit out of fear that a Big 6 will jump on your guy. I know this from experience. At this point I almost expect it and prepare for it the best I can. Of course you hate losing a guy right before signing but it's bad form to accuse a coach at a better school, with better prestige and more money of being shady -especially two coaches that are respectable.

Thanks aidiamo! I can assure you there was absolutely no collusion that took place--I jumped on the recruit for my Oklahoma State team on essentially the first full day of recruiting. This is my second season at Oklahoma State after spending numerous seasons at Pacific. I find it absurd that I have to actually write this post in order to defend not only myself, but also professor17, because we are recruiting the best possible players for our team--I thought that was allowed in WIS!

If I complained about every recruit I lost to a Power conference school, I wouldn't have time to work. This person is just a sore loser and his butt got hurt when he didn't get the player(s) he wanted.
