If a player is demanding say a 3 year 21 million contract and you offer them a 4 year 28 million contract is that more likely to be accepted, or you should just stick to the length of contract that player is requesting?

Depends on the player. He may think season 4 is worth 10 million and reject the 4/28 offer.

Ive won bidding wars on FAs relatively cheaply by adding a year at the same average price, so I'd say that it helps.

Am I correct in saying the older the player, the happier he's likely to be about the extra season, and the younger the player, the more likely he is to place a higher value on season 4 and thus decline the extra year? It seems like that's the pattern.

I've never seen a player dislike adding another season when he's making just as much that added season as he is the preceeding seasons.

It certainly provides an advantage in a bidding war.

As long as you offer the same base salary or more in additional years, I've never seen a player turn it down.
