Division naming accuracy Topic

A ticket I sent:

The Patriot League has the following divisions:

East: Lehigh, Lafayette, American U., Army, Navy, UMBC

West: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Holy Cross, Colgate, Hartford

Now, the weird thing is that almost all of the West schools are east of the East schools. See this Google Map.

The red schools are the current East, the blue is the current West.

Anyway, would it be possible to (preferred) switch the East to South and the West to North? Or how about (less preferred) just switching the names of the divisions? As you can see from the Google Map, a North-South division would leave the divisions with zero geographical overlap - I know that division names don't usually matter, but in this case one small change would make it completely accurate.

Corn, way too much time on your hands.

Acutally this was my fault.

Sorta. It's bothered me for a while - with one exception (Colgate,) the entire West division is East of the entire East division. That's just dumb.

Completely understand your point, but we don't like to change up conferences/divisions because people have become used to them as they are. There are a number of inaccuracies in this part of the game, but they were necessary to make things manageable.

Me:

You can't just change the NAMES? I'm not asking you to change school alignments.

It's a possibility, but I'm just saying people are accustomed to seeing their team in a certain place and changing will annoy them, if only temporarily. Since it's a made up division breakdown anyway, it shouldn't be a big deal.

But if you change the division names, the teams will, in fact, be in the same place.

South:
Lehigh
American U
Lafayette
etc.

North:
Vermont
Maine
Holy Cross
etc.

This must be what they mean by talking to a brick wall.

no they really won't... the north is always on top and the south is below... they really don't want that conference to be the only one that way.... so if they changed... all teams would switch ... top to bottom... every world. I agree it looks more correct... but I don't think it's a big deal.

I actually agree with CS and would probably say no as well.... maybe during the new engine roll-out they could re-shuffle divisions to make them more correct geographically. That would be probably the best time to have a shuffle of teams. I actually think you would get some real screams from guys who liked playing the same guys 2x / yr and the other division only once.

Corny's conference is probably the only one where just flipping the divisions / names would make sense.... all others would mean moving teams around. (******* some peeps off)

Seriously...I don't want to have to play Creighton 2x a year.

Yeah, mizzou - I was hoping for a special case in the Patriot because the South/North division is so ridiculously clear. It's completely a lost cause.

Look at the Big Ten divisions - virtually every team in the "East" is west of the teams in the "West."

Virtually, though... the Michigans are east of at least Northwestern. In the Patriot, the split was perfect.
