#1--When to start the draft clock, either Nov 30th or Dec 7th.

#2--Length of time slots, either 30 minutes or 1 hour.

#3--League name suggestions.

#1 - Either start works for me.

#2 - Again, either will work for me. One suggestion, I was in a recent draft league that had the last and first picks of each round at the end of each day, that way the person picking in those two slots wouldn't have to worry about picking late at night and having to wake-up early to make their next pick if they don't use a proxy.

#3 - Alpha works for me.

A third option on time slots that was suggested in a sitemail is 45 min time slots. That would allow for exactly 1 round per day and would mean your pick time would always be the one of two times (depending on odd or even round).

1. I would definitely prefer (and I am able) to start the clock next Monday, but I can easily accept December 7. In my experience, it can sometimes be an even bigger problem than the clock that people are leaving on vacation or have other commitments; and I think the probability of this increases the closer we get to Christmas and New Year's. So the more draft time we can get in early, the better, in my view.

2. I would prefer 30-minute slots but I think that's probably unrealistic; one-hour slots are fine with me. Either one.

3. Thinking about a name.

I want to make sure I correctly understand about the stadiums. Are they exclusive or non-exclusive, and which ones are available?

Thanks, Andy. Greetings, all.

Sorry, I was writing my post when you were posting yours.

Again, any of the proposed time slots OK with me.

I sitemailed my ideas to Andy, but to say everything here- I liked A-O to stand for Alpha-Omega or something like that, and 30-minute slots would be nice for me... next Monday would be nice, but the 7th is ok too

I thought of another league name just a second ago... its really stupid but here it is: Let there Be Baseball

Stadiums will be exclusive. I'll provide the list asap. There are only 11 pre-1900 parks available. All those will be available, plus 5 more. I don't have time to address that right now but an explanation will be forthcoming.

In the meantime, we need to decide if WIS Park is available. It's official dates of use are 1885-present but it isn't a real life stadium so it's up to the league whether to use it. That is something that we need to vote on as well.

Start the draft as soon as you can. The interruption doesn't matter.

30 minute time slots work. An hour is too long. And I don't think the time zone issue matters. One thing I do like is to do the same thing every day so my picks are at the same time. So one or two rounds per day. Not 1.5

To expand on the stadium list.........there will be two pools of stadiums. Pool A will be pre-1900 parks (+ WIS Park if we count it as a pre-1900). All stadiums from Pool A must be chosen--there will be either 11 or 12. Pool B will be made up of all stadiums available beginning in 1901. Once a designated # of stadiums are chosen out of Pool B, no more will be allowed.

Let's say we decide not to allow WIS Park. That means that we are five stadiums short of the 16 exclusive parks we need. That means five stadiums from Pool B will be used. Once five parks are chosen from Pool B, then that pool will be closed. If we were to count WIS Park, then instead of five, we would need only four out of Pool B.

Let me know if that makes sense......

One other thing.....I will set the draft order soon. One thing that I have set up differently than most drafts is how the rounds snake back and forth. In my opinion, a 1-16, 16-1, 1-16, 16-1....etc order is flawed. Whoever is #16 always goes first in the even # rounds which puts them at a disadvantage.

I've never seen any other league do it this way, but it seems to me that it is more fair to do it ths way: 1-16, 16-1, 16-1, 1-16, (then repeat). Seed #1 gets first pick in rds 1 & 4 (and 5 & 8) and seed #16 gets first pick in rds 2 & 3 (and 6 & 7).

Do you guys agree? Disagree?

i actually like that idea (although it does kind of ruin my evil plan, but parity is good)... also, i dont like WIS Park being used, because its too neutral u know? There is NO advantage given to the Pitchers or Hitters, which is part of what makes baseball a great sport... i would rather use Jefferson or something than WIS Park...

Replied by site mail to most but will repeat here:

1. Prefer to start 11/30, off clock 12/3-12/6 and resume on clock 12/7.

2. Prefer 1/2 hour slots, 45 minutes ok, hate 1.5 rounds per day.

3. Really like Alpha, Alpha/Omega ok.

4. I've seen 1-16, 16-1, 16-1, 1-16 & snake thereafter. I like your proposal-makes a lot of sense to me. Personally, I always hope I get picks 7 or 8, they minimize the length of times between picks.

does anybody actually have any other ideas besides Alpha or Alpha/Omega?? Im wondering... cuz theyre pretty good, but i think its possible to come up with a better one
11/25/2009 3:03 PM
I would prefer the earlier start, the better. I'm retired, so time slots really don't matter to me. 45 minutes sounds like a good plan. Don't really care about the name. I like the draft 1-16, 16-1, 16-1, but I feel that from the 4th round on, it should be strictly 1-16 and 16-1 from then on.
