wow, I was just looking at the history on champions in wooden in DIV I for the last 10 seasons, and 8 out of the last 10 winners have ran Motion/Man or Motion/Man-press. That is 80%.Goes to show that this seems to be the dominate sets to play if you want to win a championship.

The other two teams ran Flex/Man.

NO Triangle or Fastbrake offense

No zone.

so,

it would seem that the top coaches BELIEVE that these sets give them a better chance to win.

whether these sets actually give teams a better chance to win.... not sure that i am convinced of that.

i saw something like this once and then noticed that 80% of the teams in that world ran zone (or press or whtever it was) and decided that i wasnt quite as impressed.

question.... out of those 8 champs,, are any of them repeat winners?

comment for seble... WHY in the heck can we not see worlds we are not in? i jhave never understood this. the way it is now is really harmful to newbs who could be veiwing other worlds as they are waiting for thier first season to rollover . well, harmfull may not be exactly the right word, but you get my drift. and the other thing it does is **** OFF the curious folk who want to see wha tthe alltime records are and compare things like O and D played by national champs. aaaarggghhh. WHY? why would they build these barriers into the game. I feel like i am in East Berlin.

When I won my NC with Fordham in Wooden, we were running a zone/press, a subsequent coached changed it.

in tark, just for kicks, i looked up the last 10 NC winners. Of course, doing this after the fact, im not sure whether some of them have recently changed , but take it for what its worth:

4 mo man-pr

3 mo fcpr

1 flex zone-pr

1 tri fcpr

1 mo man

so, 8 have motion offense, 9 have some form of press. but at least a bit more diversity than wooden. note: three of the man-pr are the same team (TexasA&M -DrGill) and he also coached another nc champ at Colorado and ran mo-fcpr. for whatever that is worth.

wonder why motion is so dominant? i thought that prevailing theory was that any of the offenses (except for FB, which is inferior) could do as well as any other. i do know that i have allways seen more motion teams when i am looking, so maybe they programmed in an abundance of motion teams and folks have not changed that trend? yeah, but i cant beleive that 80% of all teams run motion. maybe 40 or 50 %, but 80% seems high.

Is it coincedence that 80% or the last 10 champions run a motion offense in this world as well as wooden? This seems odd to me.

If you are consistently recruiting players that are better at EVERY position, then why wouldn't you run a motion offense with a balanced distro?

If you are consistently recruiting players that are more athletic and faster at every position (while still getting great D) then why wouldn't you run some variation of the press?

In IBA it looks like about 6 or 7 of the 10 run a triangle. Its just depends world by world. Only 2 motions and 1 flex in that world.

I'm going to run Motion and Man/Press at Idaho in Wooden, that should put me over the top for a NC after a few seasons of rebuilding!
11/27/2009 10:21 AM
I ran motion in world 2 for one of those titles, my leading scorer averaged near 20 ppg and was NPOY, and his backup 10 ppg, noone else averaged over 8 ppg.

motion DOES not lead to any more or any less balanced attack than the others, this balanced attack 'motion notion' is a forum fact as far as I can tell.

Motion is the most used offense I would guess, but I don't know for a fact.

What kind of distribution did you have set-up OR? Was it spread out at all or was it all on your star and his back-up?

GO VANDALS

GO VANDALS

was not spread, was titled to the star, but not the backup. It did give the type of sim we all have been hoping for (at least I think we have been), which is the best player in the country leading his team to a title, averaging close to 20 ppg, while playing with a pretty good supporting cast.

The guy was a 970 SG with A+ FT shooting and IQ, so pretty much a perfect storm type player, 99 or 100 at ath/sp/per/bh/pa/def/st.

Far better than the 8 guys averaging 8 ppg that we are used to on winning teams? Seems like lots of successful coaches have skewed the distro lately, I think that is a great trend, of course, who knows what the engine is going to be like once the changes are in place. there probably will be guys averaging 100 ppg, and 70 rebounds
