Player Matchups Topic

I miss individual player matchups against teams playing man. I just had a PG with 20+ athleticism and 20+ speed advantage over a guy playing man with 47 DEF go 3-13 from the field (1-1 from 3) and no assist. Two other players that guarded him during the game were both slower, less athletic, and had 53 and 61 DEF. Combined fouls for the three player was 2. This is one of those times where I don't think it really mattered who was guarding him, he was going to have the outcome regardless.

I would even be fine if this happened every once in a while, but it seems to be a common occurrence.

As is the case with all WIS games we do not really know what makes up the game engine.

We make theorys, and try to prove or disprove them. In reality given that your team renews every 4 years it is almost impossible to get any real data.

I cannot understand the big secret about what makes things work.

Sometimes I feel the same way. I get situations like that a lot. It really makes you feel that what you do is useless.

seble has said that the player-vs-player matchup part is not working as intended. Not sure if that's something they're addressing with this next release or not.

Are you sure he said that? Or did he say the new release will make player vs player matchups for relevant? I always thought the coding logic itself in the current engine didn't focus on player matchups. It may be semantics.

I know that is the quote. I was referring to the 1st part of dallter's quote, not whether Seble was addressing this in the new engine.

There is a difference between "player-vs-player matchup part is not working as intended" and "player-vs-player matchup will play more of a role in the new engine."

My arguement is that the current engine doesn't even look at player vs player matchups.

I had the following exchange with him in July:

da: "Why is there currently a disconnect with results in individual matchups (strong offensive player vs. weak defender, etc.) ... is the sim not currently built to really recognize that a weak defender is guarding the particular player?"

seble: "The current SimEngine may not emphasize individual matchups as much as I'd like. That's a main focus of the next version."

da: "Is there still an element of that in the current sim -- i.e. does the sim appropriately recognize that someone is being guarded by a player who is much slower and unathletic?"

seble: "There is an individual matchup aspect to the SimEngine, but it's probably not as strong as it should be. We'll have to do a full review to determine what steps to take."
