Q about drop downs Topic

Let's just assume you have all of your positions filled out well enough and you are going to start looking into random drop downs to blow your last few thousand on if you get a stud. You have no further gameplan than "best player available, it's okay if we miss."

I've been told previously that even if we send a few evaluations (assuming we don't have 10 or w/e to pull them down, or it's too expensive) we cannot get the player to drop any quicker. I am not sure of this in practice, but I have read the theory that it is impossible on this board.

Therefore, my question is this: Previously, someone told me that if you send 5 calls, 5 letters, and 5 coach calls, sometimes people will be considering you when they drop. I do not really do this anymore, it seems like a hassle and I never really need to do it because I usually just outright pull people down or wait. However, let's say that I am a backup option for a D1 player at D2. I send 4 player evals or so and a scholarship offer. Is it possible for this player to be considering me when they drop? This is normally enough to get a player to consider you if they are at your level already, so I'm just wondering if he'll be considering me when I drop, or if I should wait until he drops and then use the evals or HV + schollie on him.

i am very much a proponent of an "open door policy" regarding fundamental drop down and pull down mechanics. but, i think the level of detail you are talking about is stuff each coach should figure out themselves. its important to do experiments to learn things, and to benefit from them.

further, this is the type of thing you should not just take another coach's word for. no matter how successful the coach, or even if it is the game programmer himself, you generally want to take external ideas as inputs into your thought process, but rely on your own experiments and experience for your conclusions. often, you can get away without verifying something a successful coach tells you. but, it will definitely burn you if you make a practice of it. it could even be a communication issue. or, things could have changed since the experienced coach did his own experiments.
