If you could have just one wish... Topic

I know that many out there have gripes about how some aspect or another of HD works. And I'm with you, it is not the perfect game nor does it mirror real life BB perfectly.

However, one of the best things about it is seeing all the different ways coaches construct teams and how they win with that roster construction. My feeling is that potential has only highlighted the different strategies, especially at DIII, because you cannot cover all the bases.

So I thought of this question the other day. Say you have a team with class distribution 3/3/3/3 which is "average." I realize this is context-dependent, so I'll let you think of what average attributes and average IQs mean for you.

With that picture in mind, what one thing would you choose your "average" team to be really good at, such that it would give you the best chance to win? If you would rather list a few things in order of preference, that'd be cool too.

To guide the discussion, perhaps also list 1) why you think it's important, 2) if the offense and defense you were running would factor into your decision, and 3) if the decision might change based on what others are doing i.e. if this became the "flavor of the week" would you keep using the same strategy or change to try and excel in another area.

I'd better answer my own question. For me, it would be a great passing team. I hate turnovers, and I think good passers create open shots for lesser offensive players.

This, in my opinion, would be best served in the triangle offense, but I wouldn't change my opinion for other offenses. I think I would focus on passing even if everyone else was doing it too.

Perhaps non-conventional, but that's why I thought of the question in the first place.

hmm, it kind of depends on the average team. if you can't rebound, it doesn't much matter if you can do anything else. so i'd probably pick rebounding. but if average means like, the middle team by rpi, i would probably go with 3 point shooting. it depends. a good average team i would say reb and a terrible average team 3 point shooting. not sure where i'd draw the line.

C'mon guys. You always wish for more wishes. Think!

absoluteyl positootely REBOUNDING.

you gotta have it. got to.

1) because you gotta have it! seriously. rebounding seems to me to be the one thing that you can really rely on being consistently simmed in this game. Good rebounding limits opponents points and give syou more chances at points so it is important on both sides of the floor.

2) nope it dont matter what o or D, still RE, RE RE!

3) nope, it dont change and it hasnt changed in 40 seasons. it has to start with RE. other stuff is important to get you over the mountaintop, but you cant even get into the foothills without the RE

in real life, i might agree that passing is king, but not in HD

confucius say: if you wish for just one thing, your team will suck.

Odd b/c I don't tend to have guys with excellent ath but I'd say ath. It just helps in so many ways. It would make team with average reb ratings an above avg rebounding team...it would make a team with average def ratings and above avg defensive team...it would make a team with average ball handling an above average team in terms of penetrating guards...

After that it would be a tie between REB and passing. Those are the two most important skills not named "ath" as far as I'm concerned.
